Job Description
Metropolitan Market, LLC is a well-established grocery store chain known for its commitment to providing exceptional customer experiences, high-quality products, and community engagement. Situated in Mercer Island, this company operates with a strong focus on service excellence and maintaining a welcoming environment for all its shoppers. Metropolitan Market is dedicated to fostering a workplace that values diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, ensuring that every team member feels valued and empowered to contribute to the success of the store.
The Front End Department at Metropolitan Market is an integral part of the overall shopping experience, providing the essential service of efficient checkout and customer interaction. This department is responsible for ensuring that guests leave the store satisfied with prompt and friendly service, personalized support, and accurate transaction processing. The role of a Front End team member, often referred to as a Checker, is key to this department’s success. This position involves more than just scanning items and handling payments; it centers around engaging with guests in a meaningful way, understanding their needs, and delivering a seamless retail experience.
As a Front End team member, you will be expected to demonstrate genuine enthusiasm and sincerity in every guest interaction. This involves customizing your approach to meet individual guest needs and building rapport through personalized service. Your duties will include conducting prompt and accurate checkouts, handling various forms of tender including cash, checks, credit and debit cards, and gift certificates. You will also perform necessary point-of-sale system functions such as price checks and proper documentation for items not found in the system. A detailed knowledge of produce items and their corresponding Price Look-Up (PLU) codes is also important.
The position requires the ability to move seamlessly from greeting guests to providing product information, upselling where appropriate, closing sales effectively, and inviting guests to return. Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the front-end area is part of the role, ensuring an inviting and efficient environment for customers and coworkers alike. Working in a fast-paced setting, you will need to balance routine tasks with immediate guest needs, prioritizing effectively and maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
Metropolitan Market values team members who bring self-motivation and initiative, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work successfully in a diverse team environment. Strong time management and organizational skills are essential, along with a commitment to delivering quality customer service. Previous cash handling experience is preferred, helping ensure confidence and competence in managing transactions. The employment type for this position is typically full-time or part-time hourly, with competitive pay ranging from $21.90 to $27.15 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Joining Metropolitan Market means becoming part of a company that prioritizes employee well-being through comprehensive benefits and a supportive work culture. The company offers a 20 percent team member discount, medical, dental, and vision insurance options available at very low costs to employees, health savings accounts, and flexible spending arrangements, all subject to eligibility requirements. Additional benefits include company-funded disability and life insurance, an Employee Assistance Program, retirement plans, generous paid time off, sick and safe leave, reduced-cost ORCA card program for King County employees, education support, and career development opportunities. These programs underscore the company’s commitment to fostering a positive work environment and encouraging professional growth.
