The Barback position at Sonesta International Hotels is an essential role within the beverage service team, designed to support bartenders and ensure seamless operations at the hotel bar and lounge areas. This role involves the preparation and upkeep of bars, including both permanent and portable set-ups, to guarantee that all equipment and supplies are adequately stocked and maintained throughout operational hours. As a Barback, you will play a crucial role in creating an inviting environment for guests by keeping the bar areas clean, well-organized, and fully equipped to meet guest needs effectively.

This role requires responsibility for managing bar inventory, including retrieving orders, checking stock accuracy, and replenishing supplies such as glassware, condiments, garnishes, and ice. You will assist bartenders in restocking and maintaining operational efficiency, while also communicating with restaurant staff to uphold high levels of guest satisfaction. Maintaining cleanliness in compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations is a key aspect of the job, as is participating in hotel promotional events and supporting other operational needs.

Job Requirements

  • 1-2 years experience in bar or similar environment
  • Fluent English speaker
  • Ability to carry or lift items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and comply with regulations
  • Ability to work discreetly and maintain professional demeanor

Job Qualifications

  • 1-2 years experience working in a bar or similar environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Some college preferred
  • Must speak fluent English

Job Duties

  • Retrieve orders from storeroom and visually check stock to ensure accuracy
  • Prepare bar by cutting, slicing, and peeling garnishes and fruits and mixing juices
  • Assist bartender with stocking and maintaining bar supplies including paper products, straws, stirrers, condiments, glassware, ice, and produce
  • Transport taps and perform routine maintenance on beer kegs
  • Communicate with bartenders and wait staff to maintain guest satisfaction
  • Maintain cleanliness of bar area, beer lockers, refrigerators, and storage areas according to codes
  • Participate in restaurant and hotel promotions and practices
  • Communicate with management regarding guest complaints, supply shortages, and safety issues
  • Follow proper ordering and payment procedures
  • Thank guests and invite them to return
