Job Description

Banner Health is a prominent and innovative healthcare organization based in Phoenix, Arizona, widely recognized for its commitment to excellent patient care and advanced medical practices. Serving the local community and beyond, Banner Health operates a network of hospitals and medical centers, including the highly regarded Banner University Medical Center-Phoenix. This academic medical center is nationally recognized for its top-tier coordinated clinical care, groundbreaking research initiatives, and dedication to training the next generation of medical professionals. With over 730 licensed beds and multiple specialty units, Banner Health stands at the forefront of health care excellence, holding Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a testament to its outstanding nursing standards and supportive work environment. Banner Health’s integrated approach combines patient-centric care with innovative treatment methodologies facilitated by collaboration with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix.

Within this prestigious medical environment, Banner University Medical Center is seeking a Certified Patient Care Assistant (CNA) to join the Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU). The PCU is a specialized department focused on delivering high-quality cardiac care, essential for patients who require close monitoring but do not need intensive care unit (ICU) level services. Working in the PCU offers invaluable hands-on experience with cardiac patients, preparing the nursing assistant for advanced roles in critical care areas such as ICUs, emergency departments, and operating rooms. This position is a full-time, day-shift role (7 am to 7:30 pm) with required weekend rotations, offering a $3,000 sign-on bonus to licensed CNAs/LNAs, plus additional shift differential pay for weekends and nights.

The role of the Patient Care Assistant is pivotal in supporting nursing staff and enhancing patient comfort by providing routine care. Duties include assistance with activities of daily living such as hygiene, mobility, and nutrition, as well as collecting patient data like vital signs and fluid balance. The assistant is responsible for accurately documenting patient data and maintaining thorough medical records to contribute meaningfully to the patient care plan. The position requires a keen eye for health status changes and the ability to communicate promptly with licensed professionals. Essential clinical procedures—under supervision—such as blood draws, EKG monitoring, and specimen transport are part of the job, further underscoring the role's importance in the surgical care setting.

Staff members in this role operate in a fast-paced environment, requiring excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. The Patient Care Assistant supports the unit’s clerical functions to promote communication flow and operational efficiency, participates in problem resolution, and helps in maintaining a well-supplied and orderly department. Banner Health is strongly committed to fostering a drug-free workplace that supports equality and inclusivity, demonstrated by its adherence to EEO principles and the requirement of fingerprint clearance cards in certain clinical areas. This opportunity suits candidates who are passionate about advancing their healthcare careers while making a meaningful difference in patient lives within a supportive, highly respected medical center.
