Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix (BUMCP) is a nationally recognized academic medical center that stands at the forefront of patient care, medical education, and research. The center boasts over 730 licensed beds and multiple specialty units, providing comprehensive and integrated care across a variety of medical fields.

The Endoscopy Unit at BUMCP is a specialized procedural department that provides care to a diverse patient population, from adolescents to geriatrics. This unit performs a wide range of endoscopic procedures, serving both inpatient and outpatient populations. The role within this unit centers on providing attentive and skilled care to patients undergoing gastrointestinal and pulmonary endoscopy procedures. This includes preoperative preparation, postoperative recovery, and overall support throughout the patient’s procedural experience.

This full-time opportunity involves working a consistent day shift from 7 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with a varied day off during the week. The position offers a 40-hour workweek with four 10-hour days, promoting work-life balance while delivering high-quality clinical care. The professional in this role is integral to the smooth operation of the unit, assisting patients with daily living activities, collecting and documenting patient data, and supporting medical staff during procedures. The individual will work under supervision and will focus on maintaining patient comfort, safety, and efficient departmental operations.

Key responsibilities include assisting with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs; collecting specimens and vital data; reporting patient abnormalities; performing delegated procedures such as EKGs and blood draws; managing clerical duties to ensure effective communication; maintaining accurate patient records; and ensuring adequate supply levels within the unit. This position requires excellent organizational and communication skills, alongside a compassionate approach to patient care within a fast-paced medical setting.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in state of practice is required for new hires and transfers
  • Skills and abilities typically attained with 1 year medical clerical experience preferably in hospital or physician office setting
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills
  • Must have effective human relations and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Computer literacy and keyboarding skills
  • Depending on department assignment receive minimum passing score of 85% on ECG or EEG test with accurate identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias and epileptiform activity
  • Successful completion of basic electrocardiogram or electroencephalographic interpretation course or on-the-job training
  • Must possess Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card if working in Behavioral Health settings or Banner Home Care AZ
  • Signed Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire

Job Qualifications

  • In Arizona, possession of Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure preferred
  • Recent healthcare experience preferred
  • Successful completion of an approved unit secretary program preferred
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Provides assistance in activities of daily living and completes necessary tasks to promote patient health including assisting patients with hygiene needs maintaining mobility and providing assistance with nutritional intake
  • Collects patient specimens and data including vital signs input/output and other delegated measurements documents objective data and routine aspects of patient care
  • Recognizes and reports abnormalities or changes in patient’s health status and responses to treatment to a licensed professional promotes continuity of care by communicating patient status accurately
  • Performs procedures and uses equipment as delegated by a licensed professional including blood draws Foley catheter removal EKGs and EKG monitoring provides supplies and support for unit specific procedures under supervision
  • Performs receptionist and clerical duties to support efficient department operations participates in customer problem resolution and data collection
  • Maintains complete patient records including admission transfer discharge information progress notes and consent forms ensures proper scanning and filing of reports assists in ordering patient specimens may transcribe and process physician orders electronically
  • Maintains adequate supplies of office dietary and medical materials completes requisitions reconciles supply orders monitors and tracks electronic equipment ensuring functionality
  • Assists in transporting patients including pre-operative and immediate post-operative patients participates in OR room turnover
  • Works under supervision handling assigned unit responsibilities in a fast-paced environment focusing on customer service and interacts with staff patients families and physicians
