The NICU Patient Care Assistant position is based within the prestigious Banner University Medical Center Phoenix’s Neo-Natal ICU, a large, specialty unit consisting of 74 private rooms and serving an average daily census of about 60 patients with a range of Level II and Level III acuities. The unit is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to provide advanced care services such as surgery, whole-body cooling, extreme prematurity care starting at 22+ weeks, and cardiac defect management until transfer to the cardiovascular intensive care unit. This role plays a critical part in assisting registered nurses and medical professionals by delivering exceptional care and support to neonatal patients and their families, contributing to positive, successful outcomes.

This is a part-time day shift opportunity (6 am to 6:30 pm) that includes a robust sign-on bonus of $3,000 for licensed CNA/LNA staff, an 18% night shift differential, and a flat rate weekend shift differential. The position also enables self-scheduling options for shifts and weekends, offering flexibility and control over work hours. The NICU Patient Care Assistant supports the overall unit efficiency by performing routine patient care tasks, collecting vital health data, and maintaining accurate medical documentation. Job Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Current BLS certification
Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in state of practice
One year of medical clerical experience preferably in hospital or physician office setting
Effective human relations and communication skills
Working knowledge of medical terminology
Computer literacy and keyboarding skills
Pass minimum 85% on ECG or EEG test or complete equivalent training
Maintain Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card if working in behavioral health or home care settings

Job Qualifications

High school diploma or GED
Current BLS certification
Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in state of practice for new hires and transfers
Skills and abilities from at least one year of medical clerical experience preferably in hospital or physician office setting
Effective human relations and communication skills
Working knowledge of medical terminology

Passing score of 85% or higher on ECG or EEG test or equivalent training
Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card for behavioral health or home care settings as applicable
Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) licensure preferred in Arizona
Recent healthcare experience preferred
Completion of an approved unit secretary program preferred
Additional related education or experience preferred

Job Duties

Provide assistance in activities of daily living and complete necessary tasks to promote patient health including basic hygiene support, maintain optimum mobility, assist nutritional intake as needed
Collect patient specimens and data including vital signs, input/output and other delegated measurements according to unit policy and standards
Document objective data and routine patient care aspects
Assist in transportation of patient specimens
Recognize and report abnormalities or changes in patient status to licensed professionals
Promote continuity of care by accurate communication of patient status
Perform delegated procedures such as blood draws, foley catheter removal, EKGs, and monitoring
Provide necessary supplies and support for unit-specific procedures under supervision
Perform receptionist and clerical duties to support department efficiency and communication
Participate in resolving customer problems and follow through
Maintain complete patient records including admission, transfer, discharge info, progress notes, consent forms
Ensure documentation is accessible and reports are accurately filed
Maintain adequate supplies of patient education materials and other operational supplies
Assist in ordering patient specimens and process physician orders using electronic medical records
Transport patients including pre-operative and post-operative as needed
Participate in operating room turnover
Work under supervision with responsibility for assigned unit, interacting with staff, patients, families, and physicians
Adhere to established policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and professional standards
Consistently demonstrate core and leader behaviors to provide excellent service experience
