The role available is for a Patient Care Assistant at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - San Marcos. This is a full-time position with a work schedule from 7 AM to 7 PM, offering an opportunity to be part of a prominent healthcare institution that values dedicated team members. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Nurse, the Patient Care Assistant supports routine and repetitive patient care activities within a nursing unit. The role is designed to provide essential support tasks that are patient-focused and clerical in nature, aiming to enhance the overall care experience. Duties include assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges; maintaining patient room readiness by setting up equipment and ensuring a clean, comfortable environment; transporting stable patients safely; and helping to manage supplies and inventory on the unit.
A crucial aspect of the role is maintaining confidentiality and security when interacting with patients, families, and visitors. The Patient Care Assistant is also responsible for observing and reporting any noticeable changes in patients’ condition to nursing staff promptly. The job calls for excellent communication skills to effectively work with multidisciplinary teams and respond to patient needs. Adaptability is important as the assistant must tailor their care approach to meet the diverse physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-related, and developmental needs of each patient. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Patient care experience in an acute care setting preferred
- CNA license in state of employment required
- BLS certification required

Job Duties
- Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders
- Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients
- Complete pertinent documents
- Prepare rooms for admission by setting up IV pots and adjusting beds to the appropriate level
- Assure all patient belongings accompany patients to new units or home at discharge
- Safely transport stable patients
- Maintain security and confidentiality when transporting patients and interacting with family and visitors
