With a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and patient-centered care, CHRISTUS Health has earned a reputation as a leading healthcare provider dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the communities it serves. This organization fosters a supportive and collaborative environment where healthcare professionals strive to deliver excellent medical services with integrity and respect.
The role at CHRISTUS Health is a Patient Care Assistant position based under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or licensed Nurse. This full-time role, scheduled from 7 AM to 7 PM, involves assisting with routine and repetitive patient care activities within a nursing unit. The position requires the candidate to perform supportive patient-focused tasks along with specific clerical and organizational duties that help maintain the efficient operation of the unit. The Patient Care Assistant plays a vital role in facilitating smooth patient admissions, transfers, and discharges by preparing rooms, managing patient belongings, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients throughout their stay.
In addition to direct patient care, this position involves maintaining unit supplies, handling equipment, and running necessary errands to support the nursing staff. The assistant will safely transport stable patients within the facility and respond to patient call lights and phone calls promptly. Communication with team members during and between shifts is essential to ensure coordinated care and maintain patient safety. The candidate must be attentive to changes in patient conditions and report any concerns accurately to the nurse in charge. This position also demands adherence to confidentiality and security protocols while interacting with patients, families, and visitors.
The ideal candidate is someone who holds a CNA license in the state of employment and possesses current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Patient care experience, particularly in an acute care setting, is preferred but not mandatory. The Patient Care Assistant should exhibit competence and adaptability in performing patient care responsibilities, recognizing and accommodating the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental needs of each patient. By fulfilling these responsibilities with compassion and professionalism, the Patient Care Assistant contributes significantly to the overall patient experience and the operational success of the nursing unit at CHRISTUS Health.
