Job Description

Carolina Family Care, Inc. (CFC) is a reputable healthcare provider specializing in family and pediatric care within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Children’s Health West Ashley facility. As part of a well-established network of clinics, CFC offers comprehensive healthcare services focused on delivering high-quality patient care in a supportive and professional environment. The institution operates under strict regulatory compliance including OSHA, DHEC, and UMA standards, ensuring safety and efficacy in clinical practices. CFC’s clinical team works collaboratively to create positive patient outcomes through patient-centered care, patient education, and thorough health assessments.

This role is that of a Certified Medical Assistant I (CMA I), an essential position within a clinical practice that centers on providing skilled support to physicians and licensed healthcare providers. This is an hourly, regular employee position with a schedule of 36 hours per week during daytime shifts in the United States. The position is graded as Health-22, reflecting the specialization and responsibility associated with the role.

The CMA I is tasked with facilitating quality patient care through a variety of clinical and administrative functions. Key responsibilities include rooming patients, taking vital signs, and collecting comprehensive health histories to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning. Precision in documenting findings and patient interactions into electronic medical records is crucial to ensure seamless continuity of care. Additionally, the CMA I administers injections, assists with minor medical procedures, and supports physicians during exams to optimize clinical workflows.

A vital component of this role is maintaining clinical and laboratory equipment, ensuring all apparatuses are calibrated, cleaned, and maintained according to federal and state health standards. The CMA I must consistently monitor and replenish exam room supplies, uphold cleanliness standards, and adhere to OSHA, DHEC, and UMA guidelines to foster a safe treatment environment.

Patient interaction extends beyond direct care, as the CMA I effectively communicates plans of care, provides patient education based on diagnoses, and assists with appointment scheduling and referrals. They also respond to and triage patient calls, relay physician orders for medications and treatments, and manage the distribution of medications, including controlled substances.

Physically, the role requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and manual dexterity to perform repetitive motions essential for patient care tasks. The role demands adherence to health and safety standards, including being fit for respirator use and working in environments requiring latex-free protocols.

Overall, this position offers healthcare professionals an opportunity to engage in meaningful patient care within a dynamic and professional practice, working alongside experienced providers dedicated to improving community health outcomes. By joining Carolina Family Care, candidates become part of a progressive institution committed to maintaining excellence in patient safety, education, and care delivery.
