Job Description

Roper St. Francis Healthcare is a well-established healthcare organization dedicated to delivering high-quality medical services and compassionate care to the communities of Charleston and its surrounding areas. With a commitment to excellence and a patient-centered approach, Roper St. Francis Healthcare operates a network of medical office buildings (MOBs) throughout the region, including locations in downtown Charleston, Summerville, and West Ashley. This comprehensive healthcare system supports a wide range of services, including outpatient clinics, specialty care, and primary care, offering patients accessible and coordinated medical attention in modern, well-equipped facilities. As an integral part of the healthcare landscape in South Carolina, Roper St. Francis Healthcare emphasizes innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration among healthcare professionals to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.

The Medical Assistant position at Roper St. Francis Healthcare is a full-time role based primarily at the Roper MOB located in downtown Charleston. This role also requires flexibility to float to other clinics in Berkeley MOB (Summerville) and BSSF MOB (West Ashley), ensuring that patient care needs are met across multiple sites. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with every other Friday off, totaling 72 hours per pay period. This position is designed for a multi-skilled clinical professional who will perform both clinical and administrative duties within the scope of medical assisting, supporting providers and facilitating quality patient care. The role involves taking vital signs, preparing patients for examination, administering medications as ordered, documenting patient information, and assisting with virtual health visits.

Candidates with over two years of healthcare and clinical experience are preferred, though onboarding includes an expectation to enroll in an approved Medical Assistant program within 30 days of employment if not already certified. The position requires obtaining an active Medical Assisting certification within 12 months of the start date, with several recognized certifications accepted, including CMA, RMA, and CCMA. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required at hire. The Medical Assistant functions under the direction of providers, contributing significantly to the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care delivery. They troubleshoot clinical issues, escalate concerns appropriately, ensure a safe and clean work environment, and participate actively in training and competency development. Responsibilities also include managing electronic health records, handling patient communications, assisting with scheduling and front desk activities, and following up on orders and referrals.

Working at Roper St. Francis Healthcare means joining a team that values mission-driven service and offers comprehensive benefits designed to support staff well-being personally and professionally. Employees can expect competitive salary packages, incentive programs, and referral bonuses. The organization provides robust medical, dental, and vision coverage, prescription benefits, HSA/FSA options, and life insurance, alongside mental health resources. Paid time off, parental leave, FMLA leave, and disability insurance are also part of the benefits package, complemented by tuition assistance, professional development opportunities, and continuing education support. As an equal opportunity employer, Roper St. Francis Healthcare fosters an inclusive work environment where all employees can thrive regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, genetic information, or disability status. Reasonable accommodations during the hiring process are available for individuals with disabilities upon request.
