The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) role at Roper St. Francis Healthcare is a critical position within this esteemed healthcare system. The CMA supports healthcare providers by efficiently managing the completion of patients' chief complaints, including vital signs such as respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight, and temperature. Additionally, the Medical Assistant documents patient and family needs, assists in planning and implementing patient care, and administers medications as ordered by the healthcare provider.
Scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, based at 2093 Henry Tecklenburg Dr, Suite 200E in Charleston, SC, this role requires a dedication to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for patients and staff. The Certified Medical Assistant will have responsibilities extending beyond routine clinical duties, including supporting virtual health visits, assisting with patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, and managing electronic health records. The position actively contributes to ensuring that all clinical and administrative functions adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, departmental competency standards, and organizational policies. This role may also require travel to other facilities or adjustments to working hours to meet patient care needs.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- active medical assisting certification (e.g., CMA, RMA, CCMA) required
- BLS Basic Life Support certification required at hire
- completion of accrediting post-secondary medical assisting program preferred
- completion of externship or clinical training preferred
- ability to work flexible hours and travel to other facilities as needed
- ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to legal requirements
- commitment to infection control standards
- strong communication and interpersonal skills
- proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- reliable attendance and punctuality
Job Qualifications
- Active medical assisting certification from recognized organizations such as CMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA where applicable
- BLS Basic Life Support certification from American Heart Association
- high school diploma or GED
- completion of an accredited Medical Assistant post-secondary education program preferred
- completion of externship or clinical lab training preferred
- strong oral and written communication skills
- ability to collaboratively work with patients, families, and healthcare teams

- experience in preparing and administering medications as directed by a physician
Job Duties
- Understand and adhere to the legal responsibilities and requirements within the Medical Assistant role
- identify significant changes in patient condition through data collection and report them to the provider
- troubleshoot issues and escalate problems to provider, direct supervisor, or appropriate internal resource
- demonstrate standards of excellence in care in all interactions for both internal and external customers
- maintain clinical and administrative skills per departmental competency guidelines
- show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician
- travel to other facilities for providers or adjust hours to meet patient care needs as directed by the practice manager
- maintain a safe and supportive environment by keeping the work area, exam rooms, and equipment clean, orderly, and safe
- assist patient and provider with virtual health visits including setup and troubleshooting
- document in electronic medical records accurately and appropriately
- manage in basket messages in the electronic health record under provider’s verbatim instructions
- perform front desk workflows such as patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, and check-in/check-out
- follow up on orders, appointments, referrals, and follow up visits and collect co-pays as needed
- order supplies, track referrals, labs, diagnostic tests, and dispose of contaminated supplies
