Job Description
The Family Practice Clinic at SRMC is a vital healthcare department dedicated to providing comprehensive medical care to patients across various age groups, including neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. As part of the SRMC healthcare system, the clinic is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered medical services that prioritize safety, efficiency, and compassion. The role within the Family Practice Clinic is a part-time, PRN (pro re nata or as needed) Medical Assistant position with a 0.05 full-time equivalent (FTE) commitment during day shifts. This position plays a crucial role in supporting both front and back office operations by undertaking a variety of clerical and patient care duties. The Medical Assistant will assist in the preparation of patient care activities such as admission, transfer, and discharge, perform routine non-invasive and some invasive treatment procedures including vital sign collection, phlebotomy, ear irrigation, catheterization, and EKGs. The position requires the individual to coordinate and schedule patient appointments, verify medical coverage, and perform basic cashiering tasks such as collecting payments and balancing cash registers.
Attention to patient safety is paramount in this role, where the Medical Assistant is expected to follow established policies and protocols proactively. This includes identifying and reporting unsafe conditions, medical errors, and near misses, as well as encouraging patients to participate actively in their care. The Medical Assistant will also be responsible for maintaining sanitary conditions in patient care areas and managing equipment and supply inventory effectively. Medication administration, including parenteral, oral drops, eye drops, and oral medication, is required after successful completion of the UNMH MA Safe Medication Administration course within 90 days of hire.
This position is suitable for candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of an accredited medical assistant program, or two years of relevant medical assistant experience. Certification such as CMA, RMA, or similar credentials is necessary, alongside CPR for Healthcare/BLS provider or professional rescuer certification obtained within 30 days of employment. The work demands include the ability to perform physically exerting tasks and adherence to safety protocols when handling chemicals and biohazardous materials. The Medical Assistant must also be flexible to rotate work shifts and potentially travel to various work sites. The clinic supports a bilingual workforce and values candidates proficient in languages such as Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo, although this is not a mandatory requirement.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- graduate of accredited medical assistant program or two years MA experience on DD Form 214
- completion of UNMH MA Safe Medication Administration course within 90 days
- certification as CMA, RMA, AMT, AAMA, NRCMA, CCMA
- CPR for healthcare/BLS provider or professional rescuer within 30 days
- ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally
- ability to work with chemicals and biohazardous materials using PPE
- flexibility to rotate work shifts
- ability to travel to various work sites
- completion of tuberculosis testing upon hire
- bilingual skills in English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo is preferred but not required
