The position is classified under student employment with a pay rate of $15.00 per hour, primarily funded through work-study programs. Preference will be given to students who hold a work-study award, although applications are welcomed from all interested students.

The Ceramics Lab Monitor will play an essential role in maintaining health and safety standards within the lab, overseeing the proper use of equipment such as electric and gas kilns, pottery wheels, and glazing stations. Responsibilities include monitoring the lab during shifts to identify and address potential hazards, preparing and mixing ceramic slips and glazes, operating kilns for firing ceramic pieces, and managing inventory of materials related to glazing. The role demands adherence to strict safety protocols, including knowledge of wheel and kiln safety, to prevent accidents and ensure a secure environment for artists and faculty.

Candidates with prior experience working in ceramics, either through previous classes at UNM, high school programs, private studios, or apprenticeships, are highly preferred for this role.
