Job Description

The position is with a school district's central kitchen, a critical component of the district's Nutrition Services Department. This kitchen serves as the hub for preparing and distributing nutritious, wholesome meals to various school locations within the district. The district is committed to promoting healthful eating habits among students, ensuring every meal meets strict nutritional and safety standards in line with federal, state, and local regulations. The Central Kitchen plays a pivotal role in the execution of the National School Lunch Program, contributing to the well-being of thousands of students by providing high-quality food that supports their growth and learning. The central kitchen operates under rigorous operational guidelines, emphasizing food safety, sanitation, and standardized food preparation protocols to maintain consistent quality across all meals prepared and distributed. The facility uses commercial kitchen equipment and modern food preparation techniques to meet volume demands efficiently while upholding food quality and hygiene standards. The role being recruited is an essential team member within this Central Kitchen, working under the direction of the Central Kitchen Lead or their designee. This position focuses on assisting with the preparation, packaging, and distribution of food items, ensuring that all meals are nutritious, appealing, and adhere to the district's cost parameters and nutritional standards. The position requires a strong attention to detail, understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures, and the ability to operate and troubleshoot commercial kitchen equipment to ensure smooth daily operations. The incumbent may also be called upon to provide support at school locations during emergency situations, ensuring uninterrupted meal service and consistent quality. The working environment involves standing and walking for extended periods, performing repetitive tasks, handling commercial kitchen equipment, and occasionally working in refrigeration or freezer units. The role demands flexibility, effective communication, teamwork, and the ability to think logically and creatively to resolve operational challenges. A valid Washington Food Handler’s Permit is mandatory for this role, reflecting the district’s strict adherence to food safety standards. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a team-oriented environment, is committed to promoting the Nutrition Services Department's vision, mission, and goals, and has a passion for contributing to the health and nutrition of students within the school district. The role entails annual participation in food safety and sanitation training to stay current with best practices and regulatory requirements. This employment opportunity is within a public school district setting, and the compensation is typically aligned with local government wage standards for food service workers. It represents a vital opportunity to contribute meaningfully to student welfare through dedicated food service and nutritional support.
