Job Requirements
- Two or more years of related experience
- Ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of homelessness, substance abuse, and related social issues
- Understanding of food preparation and kitchen safety procedures
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, frequently and kneel occasionally
- Valid California driver’s license
- Basic computer skills
- CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of employment
Job Qualifications
- Two or more years of related cooking experience
- Ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of issues related to homelessness, substance abuse, minorities, and persons with disabilities
- Familiarity with large-scale food preparation principles and equipment
- Understanding of kitchen sanitation and safety measures
- Basic knowledge of diets and nutrition
- Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Basic computer skills
- CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of employment
Job Duties
- Preparing and cooking meals in an institutional kitchen facility
- Serving meals to clients according to program objectives
- Receiving and inventorying food, equipment, and cleaning supplies
- Assisting in training and directing kitchen staff
- Ensuring safe and sanitary food handling and preparation
- Performing skilled cooking tasks including baking, roasting, broiling, and carving meats
- Cleaning kitchen equipment, dishes, and maintaining overall kitchen cleanliness
- Documenting food preparation variations and maintaining records
- Monitoring inventory and restocking supplies
- Reporting workflow issues and resource needs to management
- Communicating with service providers and external representatives
- Assisting in the orientation and ongoing training of new staff
- Adhering to safety and health standards in the kitchen
- Attending staff meetings and completing required certifications such as CPR and First Aid
