Job Description

The Center for Community Engagement is a vibrant department committed to fostering meaningful connections between students, faculty, and the broader community. Its mission revolves around promoting community service, civic engagement, and leadership development, providing students with opportunities to contribute positively to society while gaining valuable experiential learning. Serving as a bridge between academic knowledge and real-world application, the Center partners with numerous nonprofit organizations and community groups to support collaborative projects, service learning, and leadership initiatives. This institution values diversity, inclusiveness, and active participation, aiming to empower students to become responsible citizens and change agents within their communities.

The Summer Student Assistant position at the Center for Community Engagement offers a unique opportunity for currently enrolled students to engage directly with program coordination and community outreach efforts during the summer months, from May 18, 2026, through July 31, 2026. This is a part-time, temporary role with a maximum of 25 working hours per week, paying $15.00 per hour. Students selected for this role will work primarily at the Center's office, contributing significantly to the success of orientation programs for initiatives like the Bonner Leader Program and AmeriCorps VISTA members. The assistant will collaborate closely with supervisors Kimberly Drye-Dancy and Jennifer Wagoner, gaining hands-on experience in planning, organizing, and supporting various programs aimed at enhancing student and community engagement.

Responsibilities in this role are diverse and tailored to the strengths and interests of the student, emphasizing flexibility and growth. Key duties include assisting with orientation logistics such as scheduling, materials preparation, and on-site event support, as well as maintaining active communication with community partners to facilitate service opportunities and partnership activities. The role also involves essential administrative tasks like data entry, event planning support, calendar management, and helping prepare reports and program materials. Additionally, the assistant will serve as a peer ambassador, promoting events and tracking student service hours, thereby fostering greater involvement across campus.

This role supports the development of vital professional skills including organization, communication, teamwork, and leadership. Students are encouraged to contribute ideas and take initiative, helping to shape inclusive community engagement practices. With a focus on learning and impact, this position is ideal for students interested in nonprofit work, civic engagement, or community service leadership. It provides a platform not only to apply academic learning in a practical context but also to build meaningful relationships with community stakeholders and campus leaders. Overall, the Summer Student Assistant position at the Center for Community Engagement represents a rewarding summer employment opportunity that cultivates personal growth, professional development, and active contribution to community wellbeing.
