Job Description
The YMCA of Memphis and The Mid-South is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to building strong communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Known for its commitment to inclusivity, safety, and fostering a supportive environment, the YMCA provides a variety of programs and services aimed at empowering individuals and families to reach their full potential. With a focus on serving the diverse populations of Memphis and the surrounding Mid-South region, the YMCA emphasizes the values of respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring in all its initiatives and operations.
The YMCA of Memphis and The Mid-South is currently seeking a dedicated Center/Field Director to lead and manage one of its childcare centers or fields. This leadership role is integral to ensuring that children, families, and staff flourish in an environment that upholds the highest standards of quality and care. The Center/Field Director is responsible for overseeing all operational, financial, and programmatic aspects of the center or field with the goal of surpassing accreditation and quality rating criteria. This position plays a pivotal role in aligning the center's mission and values with those of the YMCA while fostering strong partnerships with families, staff, and the community.
In this role, the Center/Field Director will be expected to lead by example, embodying YMCA's core values and promoting an inclusive environment where every child and family member feels supported and valued. Responsibilities include guiding curriculum development, evaluating program effectiveness, supporting staff training and performance, and maintaining compliance with state licensing and health and safety standards. The Director will also oversee recruitment, hiring, and retention of qualified staff, ensuring a collaborative and motivated team committed to delivering outstanding childcare services.
The position demands strong leadership skills with an emphasis on financial stewardship, including budget management, profit and loss monitoring, and controlling expenses. The Director will work closely with the Regional Manager, SVP Early Learning, and YMCA Finance Department to ensure fiscal responsibility and operational effectiveness. Additionally, the Director is tasked with marketing and enrollment efforts to maintain optimal enrollment numbers and foster family engagement through effective communication and community outreach.
The ideal candidate for the Center/Field Director position will hold, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, with a preference for candidates possessing a Master’s degree. Extensive experience in early childhood care and administration, strong organizational and communication skills, and a deep understanding of accreditation processes and state regulations are essential. The role also requires the capacity to handle crisis situations with sensitivity and professionalism, as well as a commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture that embraces diversity and continuous professional growth.
Working with the YMCA of Memphis and The Mid-South offers the opportunity to be part of a respected organization that positively impacts the lives of children and families every day. This position provides a vibrant and dynamic work environment where the dedication to quality education and care is matched by the support and resources needed for success. Candidates can expect to engage in meaningful leadership that promotes community involvement, staff development, and operational excellence, all while advancing the YMCA’s mission of strengthening communities through nurturing the potential of every individual.
