Job Description

The City of Greensboro is dedicated to creating a vibrant and thriving community by partnering with its residents to enhance the quality of life. With a strong commitment to public service, the city values transparency, trust, and making a real impact on the lives of its citizens. The City of Greensboro fosters an inclusive work environment that encourages employee dedication, integrity, and stewardship, all contributing towards building a better future for the community. Employees are empowered to take pride in their roles and contribute actively to the city's mission of delivering exceptional services for all residents.

The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department, a nationally accredited department recognized with the prestigious National Gold Medal Award four times for excellence, is an integral part of this mission. The department is committed to enriching the lives of Greensboro’s residents by providing high-quality recreational opportunities through vibrant, healthy, and equitable park systems. They continuously enhance existing assets while creating transformational programs that foster strong community partnerships and connections.

Currently, the Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual for the role of Center Coordinator at the Lewis Recreation Center. This is a part-time roster position offering flexible work schedules including Monday through Friday from 9 am to 10 pm, and Saturdays from 9 am to 5 pm, totaling 8 to 20 hours per week. As a roster employee, this hourly role does not include benefits such as health insurance, paid leave, or pension plans, but it provides valuable experience and can serve as a stepping stone towards full-time employment within the city.

The Center Coordinator plays a vital role as frontline staff for the recreation center, assisting with the operational, administrative, and programming needs of the facility. Under the supervision of the Center Supervisor, this individual ensures smooth day-to-day operations while exemplifying Greensboro’s core values of honesty, integrity, respect, and stewardship.

Typical responsibilities include responding to public inquiries regarding programs, managing facility usage, monitoring scheduled activities, assisting with the setup and cleanup of event spaces, and maintaining accurate records for attendance, registrations, and financial collections. The role requires exceptional customer service skills, strong communication abilities, and proficiency in office software such as Word and Excel. Training will be provided for the recreational software system (RecTrac).

Physical demands of the job include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform various physical tasks associated with facility management. The ideal candidate will bring a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and dedication to community service.

This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). If you are looking to be part of a team that values community impact, personal growth, and public service, consider joining Greensboro’s Parks and Recreation Department as a Center Coordinator at the Lewis Recreation Center.
