The City of Greensboro is dedicated to partnering with its community to build and maintain a high quality of life for its residents. Known for its commitment to public trust and excellence in public service, the city strives to foster an environment where employees are motivated to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Greensboro's citizens. The city's approach to public service prioritizes collaboration, integrity, and the pursuit of innovative solutions that benefit the entire community. Employment with the City of Greensboro offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful programs and services while developing a rewarding career in public service. The city values employee dedication and supports growth, recognizing the critical role that its workforce plays in achieving community goals. This commitment is especially evident in departments such as Greensboro Parks and Recreation, which is nationally accredited and a four-time National Gold Medal Award winner for Parks and Recreation Excellence. This department focuses on enhancing existing resources, expanding service offerings through partnerships, and promoting a vibrant, healthy, and equitable park system that connects communities and improves quality of life.
This job opening is for the role of Center Coordinator at the Lewis Recreation Center, operated by the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department. This position is a roster role, involving hourly employment with a work schedule that includes Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., summing up to 8 to 20 hours per week. As a roster position, it does not include traditional employee benefits such as medical or dental insurance, paid leave, or pension system eligibility, and has a limit of 1,000 hours of work in any 12-month period. However, this role serves as an excellent entry point for individuals seeking to gain valuable experience and potentially transition into full-time employment within the city. The Center Coordinator will report to the Center Supervisor and play a vital role in assisting with the daily operations of the Lewis Recreation Center. Responsibilities span administrative, operational, and programmatic areas, requiring a hands-on approach and an ability to handle a variety of tasks efficiently and professionally.
The Center Coordinator is the frontline staff member who embodies the City of Greensboro’s core values of honesty, integrity, respect, and stewardship while interacting with the community. Key responsibilities include responding to inquiries about classes, events, and services with accurate information, managing groups and individuals using the facility, and overseeing scheduled programs to ensure smooth operations. The role demands active participation in both program setup and breakdown, maintaining cleanliness and organization in program areas. Additionally, the Coordinator will be responsible for accurate management of fees, deposits, registrations, and attendance tracking to support program reporting requirements. This position demands exceptional communication skills to provide outstanding customer service, a strong understanding of safe work practices, and the ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions. Familiarity or willingness to learn RecTrac, a recreational software system, is also necessary for maintaining program documentation and registrations. The physical demands of the job include the ability to lift items up to 50 pounds and engage in various activities that support the operation of the recreation center.
This is a non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), ensuring compliance with overtime and wage regulations. The City of Greensboro offers a unique and supportive workplace culture that encourages community engagement and professional growth within the realm of public recreation and leisure services. Those passionate about making a positive impact on the community through recreation services will find this position fulfilling and professionally rewarding.
