This Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I (CSTS I) position is within the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC), a vital state agency responsible for managing prison facilities and supporting inmate rehabilitation and community re-entry efforts. The role is a Food Service (FS) Supervisor based in a prison facility in Denver, Colorado, responsible for overseeing the production of meal services for a daily inmate population that can range from 600 to 7,500 meals. The incumbent plays a critical role in supporting the facility's safety and security goals while ensuring efficient, compliant, and effective food service operations. This involves overseeing inmate workers, guaranteeing adherence to health and safety standards, managing inventory and budgets for food service supplies, and coordinating meal preparation for regular, religious, and medically modified diets.

A key component of the role includes the supervision and training of inmate kitchen workers, enabling them with important life skills and work experience to prepare them for successful reintegration into the community after their incarceration. The position demands strong organizational skills, a commitment to public safety, and the ability to enforce regulations while fostering a professional, mission-driven work environment. Alongside managing logistical and operational demands, the Supervisor must model integrity, ethical behavior, and professionalism that align with the agency's mission and values.

As an employee of the Colorado Department of Corrections, this position is entitled to an extensive benefits package including medical and dental insurance, retirement plans such as PERA Defined Benefit or Contribution Plans, life insurance, and paid holidays plus vacation and sick leave. The role often requires working near industrial kitchen equipment in a loud and active atmosphere and may involve extra hours or shifts to maintain continuous meal service and security. Training will be provided for safety techniques including the use of self-defense, oleoresin capsicum spray, and communication tools such as two-way radios.
