The role of Heavy-Duty Truck Driver at WM is critical to the company’s operations. This position involves safely operating heavy-duty commercial vehicles on assigned routes covering residential, commercial, and construction environments. The driver must comply rigorously with all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and local, state, and federal regulations to maintain high standards of safety and service quality. Key responsibilities include conducting pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any safety or service issues promptly, cooperating with route managers to optimize route efficiency, and ensuring customer sites remain clean and free of debris after services are completed. The role demands physical stamina and the ability to manage route-based challenges effectively while maintaining professionalism and customer service. The position is designated safety-sensitive, requiring the candidate to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screens and comply with ongoing testing protocols. Compensation for this on-site role has a base pay starting at $32 per hour, influenced by the candidate’s experience and qualifications. Job Requirements

  • Two years operating a vehicle requiring a CDL or equivalent military driving experience within the last seven years
  • able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports
  • must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located
  • successfully complete pre-employment screening including drug screen and physical
  • CDL-Class B license

Job Qualifications

  • Two years of operating a vehicle requiring a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or equivalent military driving experience within the last seven years
  • high school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • able to read, write, and speak English sufficiently to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, and complete records or reports
  • legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located
  • CDL-Class B license

Job Duties

  • Operates vehicle in accordance with OSHA and DOT requirements as well as local, state, and federal regulations and company expectations for the fleet
  • performs pre- and post-trip inspections using Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) and notes any issues for repair
  • immediately reports unsafe situations or service calls to Route Manager or Dispatch
  • participates in all required training, briefings, and meetings
  • works closely with Route Managers to improve route efficiencies and identify problems or unsafe accounts
  • performs scheduled duties and assists other drivers as directed
  • notifies Route Manager of incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage
  • reports issues such as blocked containers or missed pickups following Service Machine protocol
  • communicates customer requests or issues to Dispatch or Route Manager
  • completely empties containers and ensures customer locations are clean
  • completes necessary documentation and customer tickets
  • correctly positions containers ensuring lids are replaced and containers do not block traffic
  • follows assigned routes and completes all end-of-route documentation
