Job Description
Waste Management (WM) is a leading environmental solutions company that specializes in waste collection, recycling, and disposal services. Serving residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal customers, WM has a well-established reputation for being the largest waste management company in North America. With a team-focused culture and commitment to sustainability, WM operates with over 20,000 vehicles and millions of customers across the continent. Their mission is not only to provide reliable waste collection but also to create opportunities for employees and to conserve natural resources through recycling and responsible waste management practices.
This job opportunity at WM offers an hourly wage starting at $20.00, with the possibility of adjustment based on experience (DOE). The shift begins at 5:15 a.m. from Monday to Friday, ideal for individuals seeking steady weekday employment in a stable and essential industry.
The role is focused on commercial, residential, or roll-off driving responsibilities. Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks equipped with various load lift attachments tailored to the specific line of business and type of truck. Responsibilities include transporting waste or recyclable materials to designated disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities. This position requires maneuvering containers sometimes weighing over 1,000 pounds, careful navigation through residential neighborhoods, busy urban environments, and industrial areas. Highly skilled backing maneuvers are crucial to perform daily duties safely and efficiently.
Drivers will adhere to Waste Management's Safety and Life Critical Rules, as well as comply with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and all relevant local, state, and federal regulations. Pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections are mandatory and documented following the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) standards. WM drivers play a critical role in customer satisfaction by ensuring routes are completed thoroughly, receptacles are emptied completely, and the environment around pickup points is clean and safe.
The position emphasizes teamwork and communication, requiring drivers to work closely with Operations Managers and Dispatch to address service interruptions, safety hazards, and job site discrepancies. Drivers are also encouraged to participate actively in ongoing training programs and meetings, promoting continuous growth and adherence to best practices.
WM is committed to investing in its workforce by offering comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, short-term disability, 401K plans with company match, a stock purchase plan, and dependent daycare benefits. Additionally, eligible employees receive paid vacation, holidays, and personal days. The company supports educational growth through an annual Education Assistance Benefit, reinforcing its commitment to employee development.
This opportunity at WM is more than just a job — it represents a pathway to a stable career with a company that values its employees, promotes safety and compliance, and invests in their future. Individuals seeking a meaningful role in an essential industry that offers competitive pay, benefits, and a supportive work environment should consider joining the WM team today.
