Job Description
Waste Management (WM) is a leading provider of comprehensive waste management environmental services in North America. Founded with a commitment to sustainability and innovation, WM has grown into a stable and reliable company that serves millions of customers with a broad range of services including collection, transfer, recycling, and disposal of waste materials. As a household name in waste management, WM operates with a mission to not only handle waste responsibly but also to create opportunities that improve the quality of life for its team members, customers, and communities. The company embraces its responsibility toward environmental stewardship and invests extensively in education and employee growth to maintain its leadership in the industry.
WM strongly values its team and offers more than just a paycheck. Working at WM means becoming part of a dedicated team that performs essential and meaningful work daily to keep communities clean and sustainable. WM's commitment to stability ensures that team members have consistent work schedules and the security of being home every day. The company is deeply invested in the professional and personal growth of its employees. Annual education assistance benefits provide opportunities for continuing education and skill development, helping team members to advance their careers within the company.
The benefits package offered by WM is comprehensive, including amazing medical, dental, and vision coverage to support employee health. WM also offers a competitive 401K plan with company matching, discounted stock options to encourage ownership and long-term investment in the company’s success, dependent day care programs to assist working parents, and a variety of other perks that enhance employee well-being.
The Commercial Driver role at Waste Management is critical to the company’s operations. Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks equipped with front, side, or rear-end load lift attachments depending on the business line and truck type. Their responsibilities include transporting waste or recyclable materials to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities once trucks reach legal load capacity. Other truck types include residential vehicles responsible for safely collecting household waste and roll-off trucks that handle large, mobile open-top and compactor containers.
Drivers work in various environments that demand a high degree of skill and safety awareness. They must navigate congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots while performing precise backing maneuvers. The job also requires drivers to comply fully with safety standards governed by WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT, and other local, state, and federal regulations. They conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and promptly report any unsafe situations, incidents, or service interruptions to management.
The role calls for strong communication skills as drivers frequently interact with customers and coordinate with operations managers and dispatch to improve route efficiencies and resolve issues. Attention to detail is necessary to maintain clean job sites and complete end-of-day documentation. Teamwork is emphasized as drivers assist each other to meet customer needs and maintain high service standards.
Pay for this role is competitive, with a base wage starting at $24.50 per hour, which may vary based on experience, education, and location. The company encourages candidates who seek a rewarding career with significant growth potential and who want to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future to apply. Joining WM means joining a company committed to offering stability, growth, and investment in its people and communities.
