Job Description
Waste Management (WM) is a leading provider in the environmental services industry, committed to creating sustainable solutions that protect the planet now and for future generations. With a workforce of over 60,000 employees from diverse backgrounds, WM fosters a culture that values its people first and emphasizes growth, stability, and family. The company offers comprehensive benefits and career development programs designed to support employees' personal and professional advancement. WM positions itself as a company where jobs are not just paychecks but opportunities to create a better tomorrow for employees and their families. WM’s mission centers on sustainability and environmental stewardship, encouraging its team members to become caretakers of the earth while contributing to a cleaner, greener world.
The role of Commercial Driver at WM is vital for the company’s operational success and its commitment to environmental responsibility. As a Commercial Driver, you will operate heavy-duty vehicles equipped with front, side, or rear-end load lift attachments depending on your assigned line of business and truck type. Your main responsibility will be to transport waste or recyclable materials to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities once trucks reach legal load capacity. This involves maneuvering containers, which can weigh over 1,000 pounds, requiring highly skilled backing and vehicle-handling maneuvers in various environments, including residential areas, congested roadways, alleyways, industrial sites, and lots.
There are specialized roles within this position: Residential Drivers focus on household waste and recyclable material collection, Roll-off Drivers handle large mobile open-top and compactor containers, and Commercial Drivers provide essential pick-up services for filled containers. Safety is paramount in this role; drivers must operate vehicles in compliance with WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT, and local, state, and federal regulations. Pre- and post-trip inspections are required to ensure vehicle safety and functionality, and drivers must communicate any safety or service concerns promptly. This position offers paid on-the-job training, professional development opportunities, and a supportive team environment that values collaboration and career progression.
Joining WM as a Commercial Driver means becoming part of a stable and forward-thinking company invested in its employees' well-being, offering outstanding medical, dental, vision insurance, 401(k) matching, discounted stock options, dependent day care, and more. The company encourages continuous education through the Tomorrow Education Assistance Program, ensuring employees have opportunities to advance their careers. If you have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B with air-brake endorsement), meet the physical demands of the job, and are ready to contribute to the sustainability efforts of a top environmental services company, WM invites you to apply and roll with their team today.
