The role of a Commercial Driver at WM involves operating heavy-duty trucks fitted with front, side, or rear-end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and the truck type. Drivers are responsible for the transportation of materials to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities once trucks reach legal load capacity. This position includes the collection and pick-up service of containers filled with waste or recyclable materials, which may weigh over 1,000 pounds. Drivers often navigate high-traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, requiring highly skilled backing maneuvers to perform their duties safely and effectively. Depending on their specialization, such as Residential Driver or Roll-off Driver, the candidate must handle residential household waste or large mobile open-top containers. The role requires adherence to WM's strict safety and operational standards as well as compliance with federal, state, and local transportation laws.
