Job Description

Valet Park of America is a reputable transportation company known for providing reliable and efficient shuttle services. Situated in Hamden, CT, this company specializes in facilitating smooth and safe transit for various clients, prominently including higher education institutions like Quinnipiac University. With a focus on exceptional customer service and safety, Valet Park of America ensures that its fleet of vehicles is well-maintained and that its drivers are highly trained and professional.

This particular job opportunity is for a Shuttle Driver position servicing Quinnipiac University’s campus. The role involves transporting college students and faculty members around the university and nearby locations. The service utilizes newer walk-on 25-passenger shuttles that come equipped with wheelchair lifts, emphasizing accessibility and comfort. These vehicles are cleaned and maintained regularly to uphold high standards of safety and hygiene.

The position is open to both full-time and part-time applicants, with the exact schedule to be determined based on the candidate's availability. Full-time employees have access to health and dental insurance benefits after 90 days of employment, with a 50/50 insurance premium split, as well as paid vacation leave after one year of service. Moreover, there are advancement opportunities for motivated individuals who perform well in their roles.

Shuttle Drivers must be at least 20 years old due to insurance requirements and possess a valid Connecticut driver's license with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including a passenger endorsement. A valid medical card is also required. Candidates must undergo background and SORI checks, along with drug and driving tests, to ensure compliance with safety and legal standards.

The primary responsibility of the Shuttle Driver is to ensure safe, courteous, and timely transportation of passengers. Drivers are expected to greet patrons politely, assist them as needed, and operate the shuttles in adherence to all traffic laws and company procedures. Communication skills are critical since drivers maintain radio contact with management and team members throughout their shifts. Additional duties include conducting vehicle pre-trip inspections, recording passenger counts and trip times, performing necessary paperwork, and reporting any mechanical issues promptly.

Besides driving, shuttle operators help maintain the cleanliness and functionality of the vehicles by sweeping and removing debris, setting up and breaking down equipment such as signs and cones, and assisting passengers who require wheelchair access. Occasionally, drivers may fill in as lot attendants, demonstrating the flexible, team-oriented nature of the workplace.

This role is ideal for individuals seeking steady employment within a respected company that values safety, professionalism, and quality service. Drivers play an essential part in enhancing the daily commuting experience of university students and faculty, contributing positively to the campus community. Valet Park of America fosters an inclusive work environment and is an Equal Opportunity Employer, welcoming applicants from diverse backgrounds who meet the requirements.
