Job Description
US Foods is one of the largest food distributors in the United States, known for its strong safety culture, commitment to employee development, and a continuous improvement focus. The company operates primarily as a foodservice distributor, providing a wide range of products including meats, produce, frozen foods, and dry goods to various clients. With a rich history of promoting from within and excellent training programs, US Foods emphasizes building careers rather than just jobs, making it an attractive employer in the logistics and transportation sector. This company values safety, reliability, and efficiency, ensuring high standards in the delivery of products to meet customer needs. The employment opportunity available here is full-time with a competitive pay structure and comprehensive benefits package designed to support employee well-being and financial security.
The role of a US Foods Driver involves safely operating tractor trailers to transport various products between multiple remote dispatch sites. This is a specialized driving position requiring a valid CDL Class A license with a doubles endorsement, as driving with doubles trailers is a core function of the job. Candidates must have a minimum of six months of commercial driving experience, preferably with experience in driving doubles endorsements. The typical work schedule is Sunday through Thursday from 7pm until the route is complete, with the possibility of working on Fridays for overtime. Drivers are expected to perform all pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections to ensure the truck and trailer are in optimal condition before and after runs. The job requires comfort working in various weather conditions, including inclement weather, which is essential for consistent and safe deliveries.
The pay for drivers averages over 30 dollars per hour, with base compensation approximately 260 dollars per day plus additional incentive-based pay such as overtime compensation, mileage, stops, and other component pay when applicable. Benefits offered include medical, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, a 401K retirement plan, and more, reflecting the company’s dedication to supporting its employees comprehensively. Additionally, employees benefit from pre-tax spending accounts, paid time off, short- and long-term disability options, and an employee stock purchase plan. US Foods also requires drivers to register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse and demonstrate the ability to read and communicate effectively in English to ensure the safe and efficient completion of their duties. This role is critical to the company’s supply chain and customer satisfaction, offering a rewarding career path for qualified commercial drivers who meet the necessary requirements and seek a stable, well-supported driving position.
