Located in Charlotte, NC at the Old Dowd Road branch and operating as a retail shop, Airgas is seeking a dedicated CDL Route Driver. This full-time, Monday through Friday position starts early at 6 am, with the benefit of returning home daily. The CDL Route Driver role involves the safe and efficient transportation, loading, and unloading of compressed gas cylinders between Airgas locations. The driver will operate Class B Hazmat vehicles carrying compressed and liquid gas cylinders as well as hard goods along specified routes. Meticulous documentation and vehicle inspections must be maintained to comply with safety standards and hazardous material regulations. The position also emphasizes high-quality customer service, including the collection of empty cylinders and addressing inquiries to ensure customer satisfaction. The route driver must use warehouse equipment like forklifts and uphold professionalism as an Airgas representative during deliveries. Additionally, the role requires adherence to all safety protocols and regulations concerning hazardous materials.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Class B CDL
  • Must have HAZMAT endorsement or be able to obtain the endorsement within 60 days of being hired
  • Successful completion of Airgas background and motor vehicle check
  • DOT clearinghouse verification from previous employers is required
  • Ability to routinely lift 25 - 75 lbs, and occasionally lift 76 to greater than 100 lbs
  • Willingness to work outdoors in changing temperatures
  • Ability to maintain a drug-free workplace
  • Adherence to safety regulations and policies

Job Duties

  • Operate a Class B Hazmat vehicle to deliver compressed and liquid gas cylinders, as well as hard goods, along designated routes
  • Collect empty cylinders from customers and address inquiries to ensure complete satisfaction
  • Record all transactions accurately and obtain necessary customer signatures
  • Handle the loading and unloading of all materials
  • Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, noting any issues to ensure full safety compliance and maintaining the vehicle's condition
  • Maintain a professional appearance and serve as a representative of the company during all deliveries
