Job Description

Waste Management (WM) is a leading environmental services company specializing in waste collection, recycling, and disposal solutions. WM prides itself on delivering essential and meaningful services that enable communities and businesses to maintain clean and sustainable environments. Established as a stable employer with a dedicated workforce, WM is known for its commitment to employee growth and development, providing 100% tuition reimbursement for benefits-eligible employees and opportunities for career advancement. WM's core mission centers on enhancing the quality of life through innovative waste management practices, strong safety standards, and reliable service delivery. The company promotes a culture of safety, accountability and customer satisfaction, ensuring that its operations meet strict health and environmental regulations at local, state, and federal levels.

The CDL Driver position based in Hyattsville, VA, offers a rewarding career within WM's operational team. This role is pivotal in transporting waste and recyclable materials safely and efficiently to designated disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities. CDL Drivers operate various types of heavy-duty trucks equipped with front, side, or rear-end load lift attachments depending on the business line and truck type they are assigned. The role requires handling containers that may weigh over 1,000 pounds and performing complex maneuvers in tight spaces such as high-traffic roadways, alleyways, driveways, and lots. Drivers must be proficient in backing and maneuvering vehicles skillfully to complete their routes successfully.

The position encompasses several operational categories including commercial, residential, and roll-off driving duties. Commercial Drivers provide pick-up service of filled waste or recyclable containers, Residential Drivers collect household waste from residential areas, and Roll-off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large open-top or compactor containers from customer locations. Each requires adherence to stringent safety protocols, including compliance with OSHA, DOT, and WM Safety and Life Critical Rules.

Pay for this on-site position starts at approximately $26 per hour, representing a competitive wage reflective of the candidate's skills, experience, and location. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package to eligible employees, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, short-term disability coverage, stock purchase plans, and a 401(k) plan with company matching. Employees also enjoy paid vacations, personal days, and holidays which contribute to a balanced work-life environment.

This full-time position is ideal for individuals with a valid CDL Class A or Class B license with air-brake endorsements, who are committed to safety, customer service, and operational excellence. The role demands physical stamina with tasks involving lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, and sitting for extended periods. Successful candidates must pass pre-employment screening including drug and physical tests. WM encourages diversity and offers reasonable accommodation to enable employees with disabilities to perform essential job functions. Candidates interested in a career with WM are invited to apply and join a team that values stability, growth, and making a positive environmental impact.
