Job Description
GFL Environmental Inc. is a leading North American provider of diversified environmental services, committed to providing sustainable and innovative waste management solutions to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. GFL specializes in solid waste management, recycling, and environmental services, offering a broad range of services designed to support communities and businesses in maintaining environmental responsibility. With a focus on safety, customer service, and operational excellence, GFL has established itself as an industry leader striving to promote environmental stewardship through efficient waste collection and recycling programs.
The Residential Rear Load Driver role at GFL is essential to the company's mission of delivering exceptional waste removal services while upholding the highest safety and operational standards. The driver will be responsible for operating residential or recycling collection trucks equipped with side-load or rear-load mechanisms to collect solid waste, yard waste, and recyclables along specified routes. This position involves meticulous operation of the vehicle's hydraulic and ancillary equipment to ensure efficient loading and compaction of waste materials. The driver must conduct detailed pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, report any mechanical concerns promptly, and maintain clean vehicle conditions.
Equally important is the communication aspect of this role, as drivers regularly interact with customers and the public, representing GFL's commitment to courteous and professional service. Drivers will be expected to maintain accurate records of service activities, manage inventory of waste containers, and work collaboratively with supervisors to optimize route efficiency. Adherence to all federal, state, and local safety regulations is mandatory, including the proper use of all personal protective equipment. The position may require overtime work and participation in regular safety and branch meetings.
Ideal candidates must possess a commercial driver's license (CDL), with demonstrated experience in commercial driving — either through a minimum of one year of experience or successful completion of a CDL training program. A high school diploma or GED is preferred. The role demands physical stamina and mental alertness to safely execute a variety of duties including maneuvering trucks in challenging environments, recognizing hazardous waste, and lifting materials up to 100 pounds periodically.
GFL is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The company does not provide visa sponsorship for this role, and candidates must have valid work authorization in the country of employment. GFL uses advanced assessment systems in the hiring process to ensure fair and thorough candidate evaluations. This position offers a rewarding opportunity for professionals who are eager to contribute to environmental sustainability and public health through expert waste management and customer service excellence.
