Job Description
Waste Management (WM) is a leading provider of comprehensive waste management services across North America. As an established and reliable company, WM has a longstanding commitment to safety, environmental sustainability, and customer satisfaction. The company operates a diverse fleet of vehicles and employs skilled drivers to handle the collection and transport of waste and recyclable materials. WM offers stable employment opportunities with meaningful work that extends beyond a paycheck by fostering growth and offering education assistance to team members. Additionally, the company invests heavily in its employees by providing comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan with company match, discounted stock options, dependent daycare services, and other valuable benefits. WM is proud of its inclusive culture and dedication to employee development and well-being, ensuring a supportive work environment for all team members.
The role of Commercial Driver at Waste Management is integral to the company’s operations, requiring the safe and efficient handling of heavy-duty trucks equipped with various types of load lift attachments. Drivers serve a critical role by transporting waste and recyclable materials to designated facilities and performing pickups of containers that may weigh over 1,000 pounds. The job demands skilled maneuvering in high-traffic and congested areas, including residential neighborhoods, industrial routes, alleyways, and driveways. Drivers must adhere strictly to safety rules and federal regulations, including OSHA and Department of Transportation requirements, to ensure the safety of themselves and the community. This position operates on a Monday through Friday schedule, specifically from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a 4x10 workweek format providing Thursdays off. The Commercial Driver's responsibilities vary slightly depending on the type of truck operated, such as front, side, or rear-end loaders, as well as roll-off containers.
The position involves comprehensive pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections documented through Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR), communication with dispatch and operations managers regarding safety and service issues, and commitment to ongoing training and route optimization. Drivers are expected to complete all route assignments precisely and maintain the cleanliness of customer locations. Crucially, the role is designated as safety sensitive, requiring compliance with rigorous safety protocols, drug and alcohol screening, and physical fitness. Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, and handling, among others.
Joining Waste Management means joining a team that values stability, safety, growth, teamwork, and community impact. If you are a skilled driver looking for a rewarding and steady position with a top-tier company that invests in your future, WM invites you to apply and be part of #WeAreWM, building a cleaner and more sustainable environment today and for generations to come.
