Job Description
Performance Foodservice, part of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline food distributor known for its comprehensive service and strong relationships with a diverse range of local customers. This includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on a team composed of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts who work closely with customers to offer tailored advice on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and strategic initiatives. As a result, Performance Foodservice doesn't just deliver quality food products; it also actively supports the success and growth of independent restaurant owners and other foodservice clients.
This particular position is for a CDL-B Driver within Performance Foodservice's efficient delivery network, based in San Francisco, CA. The role offers competitive pay at $30 per hour and involves Monday through Friday shifts with dispatch at 2 AM and 10-hour average shifts, providing no work on weekends which can greatly appeal to those seeking work-life balance. The job requires handling touch freight, mixed pallets, and performing ramp and hand truck duties, emphasizing the physical aspect of the role. A key competency needed is the experience maneuvering a commercial driver's license (CDL) in narrow spaces, a critical skill given the urban delivery locations in San Francisco.
The CDL-B Driver is a vital link in the nation's food supply chain, ensuring that food and related products are delivered safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Beyond mere transportation, drivers serve as ambassadors for Performance Foodservice, cultivating strong, lasting relationships with customers. This role includes driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on various routes including intrastate, interstate, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and drive-and-drop assignments. Safety is paramount, and the driver must comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) rules while maintaining company safety standards. The position demands performing detailed safety inspections both before and after trips, reporting any vehicle issues, and ensuring correct freight loading and unloading.
In addition to driving, responsibilities include verifying product counts against invoices, completing accurate paperwork, loading returns, collecting payments if required, and maintaining cleanliness of equipment and trailers. The driver will also keep detailed logs of hours of service, perform general housekeeping duties around the truck and loading dock, and exhibit teamwork within the company’s department. This multifaceted role blends physical activity with critical operational tasks and professional customer interaction, requiring a reliable, safety-conscious, and service-oriented individual.
Overall, this role offers not only competitive compensation and essential benefits such as Day 1 health and wellness coverage, employee stock purchase plan, 401K matching, education assistance, and paid time off but also tremendous growth opportunities within a company that values safety, respect, and an inclusive work environment. Drivers who join Performance Foodservice contribute directly to a vital component of America's food distribution system and have the potential to build fulfilling careers in this essential industry.
