Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), operates with a clear focus on supporting a diverse clientele that includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. As a leader in foodservice distribution, Performance Foodservice prides itself on fostering close, supportive relationships with its customers through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts. These professionals not only deliver quality food products but also offer valuable advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and overall operational strategies. The company’s commitment to going beyond basic delivery highlights its mission to empower independent restaurant owners and various other clients in achieving their business dreams and operational goals.
Performance Foodservice stands out for its comprehensive approach by combining competitive pay and benefits with meaningful growth opportunities. Employees enjoy immediate access to health and wellness benefits starting on day one, participation in an employee stock purchase plan, employer matching for 401K retirement savings, education assistance programs, paid time off, and more. The company actively promotes a safe and inclusive work environment cultivated through a culture rich in rewards, recognition, and respect — essential elements that contribute to employee satisfaction and long-term retention.
The position offered is for a Shuttle Driver, a vital role within the company’s logistics and distribution network. The Shuttle Driver is primarily responsible for transporting empty trailers to operating company warehouse locations and returning full trailers loaded with various products to designated domicile or shuttle yard locations. This role requires operating tandem trailers, tractor-trailers, or straight trucks along intrastate and interstate routes, adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards.
The role demands a strong focus on safety and operational accuracy, involving routine pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers, ensuring freight is properly loaded and secured, and all route paperwork is accurately handled. The Shuttle Driver performs crucial hook and unhook procedures, parks and stores equipment correctly, and ensures the security of all freight and vehicles at all times. Additional responsibilities include collecting damaged goods and customer returns, unloading equipment and materials, maintaining cleanliness in the tractor and loading dock areas, and keeping trailers in optimal condition.
Effective communication skills are essential, as the Shuttle Driver interacts professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers to provide timely and accurate responses to any inquiries. This position is a team-oriented role within the department and broader organization, requiring flexibility to perform any duty necessary to best serve the company’s interests. Sign-on bonuses, competitive pay scales ranging from an average annual pay between $73,000 and $90,000, and the opportunity to work primarily Sunday to Thursday on evening dispatches demonstrate the company’s dedication to attracting and retaining qualified, motivated employees.
Performance Foodservice is an equal opportunity employer committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. The company complies fully with all local, state, and federal laws concerning equal employment opportunities and is dedicated to fair treatment for all applicants and employees regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age, or any other protected characteristic. This reflects the Company’s core values and underscores its position as a respected and ethical leader in the food distribution industry.
