Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), stands as a premier foodservice distribution company dedicated to supporting a diverse range of local customers such as independent restaurants and hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a seasoned team comprising sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other foodservice experts, PFG provides comprehensive services beyond mere food delivery. They offer valuable guidance on operational improvement, menu development, product selection, and strategic business approaches, thereby assisting independent restaurant owners and other clients in realizing and achieving their unique aspirations for growth and success in a competitive market.

Performance Foodservice is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and rewarding work environment. This commitment is evidenced by their robust culture of recognition, respect, and employee support, alongside competitive compensation packages and an array of comprehensive benefits. These benefits include day-one health and wellness coverage, a company stock purchase plan, employer-sponsored 401K matching, educational assistance programs, paid time off, and much more. The company actively promotes career growth opportunities by enabling employees to perform essential roles that support America's extensive food distribution network.

The Shuttle Driver role is a critical position within Performance Foodservice's operational framework, primarily responsible for transporting empty trailers between Operating Company warehouse locations and shuttle yard or domicile locations, as well as delivering fully loaded trailers safely and punctually. This role involves utilizing various types of equipment, including tandem trailers, tractor-trailers, and straight trucks, to execute intrastate and interstate transport routes that comply with stringent Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

The Shuttle Driver will conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections on vehicles and trailers, ensuring all equipment meets safety standards and flagging any necessary repairs immediately. The role demands adherence to all DOT rules and company safety policies, including reporting hazards promptly and ensuring freight is securely loaded and properly documented during transit. The position requires solid communication skills, as drivers will engage professionally with customers, vendors, and colleagues to provide accurate and prompt responses to inquiries.

Additional responsibilities include executing hook/unhook procedures following safety guidelines, managing parking and storage of vehicles, and securing all equipment and freight during journeys. Drivers are also tasked with collecting damaged goods and customer returns and processing these with required documentation. Maintaining clean trailers and work areas, completing accurate daily logs in accordance with federal and state regulations, and performing various related duties as assigned complete the scope of the role.

This position demands individuals who hold a valid CDL A license with a Doubles Endorsement, have at least one year of commercial driving experience, and meet all state licensing requirements. Candidates must be able to work a third-shift schedule, specifically Sunday through Thursday nights, be at least 21 years old, possess a clean motor vehicle record for the past three years, and clear pre-employment drug and road tests. Physical requirements include the ability to hand-lift and use equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to handle product cases weighing approximately 60 to 90 pounds.

Performance Foodservice values equal employment opportunity and is committed to diversity and inclusion in its workforce. The company ensures all applicants and employees are treated fairly regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status under applicable laws. By joining Performance Foodservice as a Shuttle Driver, individuals become part of a company devoted to both employee well-being and exceptional service delivery in the foodservice industry.
