Job Description

Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a leading broadline distributor known for its commitment to serving a diverse customer base, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on delivering not just high-quality food products but also exceptional customer support through a dynamic team comprising sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other professionals. This team works closely with customers to provide valuable advice on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and strategic growth, helping independent restaurant owners and other clients achieve their business goals and aspirations.

Performance Foodservice operates with a strong focus on community and inclusivity. It is dedicated to fostering an environment where diversity is celebrated and all employees receive equal employment opportunities, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law. The company emphasizes a culture of respect, recognition, and rewards, ensuring a safe and inclusive workplace that supports the well-being and professional growth of its employees.

The Shuttle Driver position is a pivotal role within Performance Foodservice’s logistics operations. This full-time role involves transporting empty trailers to operating company warehouse locations and returning with full trailers to domicile or shuttle yard sites. The driver will operate a tandem trailer, tractor trailer, and/or straight truck on intrastate and interstate routes. With an average daily pay of $250, translating to an estimated annual salary between $73,000 and $90,000, this role offers competitive compensation aligned with the essential responsibilities it entails.

The Shuttle Driver's day typically starts with dispatching work Sunday through Thursday around 5:00 pm, covering routes lasting 10 to 12 hours. The position requires a valid CDL Class A license with a doubles endorsement, underlining the safety and regulatory standards the company upholds. The driver is responsible for ensuring all equipment is inspected and maintained according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including pre and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers. Adherence to safety protocols and immediate reporting of any hazards or necessary repairs are crucial duties.

In addition to vehicle operation, Shuttle Drivers handle route paperwork, complete hooks and unhooks following safety guidelines, and ensure all products are properly secured during transit. They also perform tasks such as collecting damaged goods and returns, unloading materials, maintaining cleanliness of tractors and trailers, and accurately logging hours of service to comply with federal and company regulations.

The role demands professionalism in communication, requiring drivers to interact courteously and effectively with customers, vendors, and coworkers. By functioning as a collaborative team member, drivers contribute to the smooth and safe delivery of goods that support America’s food distribution network. The position not only offers a competitive pay and benefits package—including day-one health and wellness benefits, employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more—but also growth opportunities within a company that values its workforce as a key asset.

Overall, the Shuttle Driver role at Performance Foodservice is integral to the company's mission of delivering quality products efficiently while maintaining a safe, respectful, and rewarding work environment. Candidates who meet the requirements and are passionate about logistics and transportation will find a supportive and opportunity-rich workplace in this position.
