Job Description

Performance Food Group (PFG), a leading broadline foodservice distributor, plays an essential role in supplying a diverse range of local customers, including independent restaurants and hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a dedicated team comprising sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts, PFG goes far beyond simply delivering food. The company provides invaluable guidance to customers on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies to help independent restaurant owners and businesses thrive. At its core, PFG is committed to delivering not just delicious food but also empowering its clients to achieve their aspirations, establishing itself as a trusted partner in the foodservice industry.

The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Food Group is a critical role within this food distribution system. The role involves driving tractor-trailers or straight trucks to deliver food and related products both within states (intrastate) and between states (interstate). Drivers work commonly with local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes, including drive-and-drop routes, ensuring timely and safe delivery of goods. This position offers an attractive compensation package, including average daily pay of $420 with a minimum daily guarantee of $400, and training pay set at $320 daily. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with dispatch at 2 AM and average shifts lasting 10 hours, explicitly excluding weekends. The driving duties include handling touch freight, mixed pallets, and using ramp or hand trucks for loading and unloading.

This position demands not only professional driving skills but also customer service abilities as drivers frequently represent the company as the primary point of contact for customers, establishing positive relationships and trust. Drivers are expected to perform various safety checks, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections in adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines and company safety standards. This role requires reporting any safety hazards or repairs, completing all required paperwork accurately, managing the loading and unloading process carefully, and ensuring freight security at all times.

Candidates for this position must possess a valid CDL-A license, have at least 12 months of commercial driving experience, and be at least 21 years old. Additional requirements include passing drug tests, criminal background checks, road tests, and maintaining a clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the last three years. Prospective drivers must also hold or be eligible to acquire a current DOT Health Card. Physical capability to hand-lift and use equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to handle freight weighing between 10 and approximately 90 pounds is necessary.

Overall, being a CDL-A Driver with Performance Food Group offers a rewarding opportunity to join a reputable company that values safety, inclusivity, and employee development. The company provides a comprehensive benefits package from Day 1, which includes health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and many other perks. The culture fosters growth and recognizes employee contributions, making it a supportive environment for professional drivers dedicated to supporting America's vital food supply chain.
