Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), plays a pivotal role in America's food distribution system. The company uniquely caters to a diverse range of local customers, including independent restaurants and hotels, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and quick-service eateries. Supported by a strong team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts, Performance Foodservice establishes close partnerships with its customers. These experts provide valuable guidance on operational improvements, menu development, product selection, and strategic management. This approach goes beyond simply delivering quality food products; it empowers independent restaurant owners and other clients to achieve their business dreams with reliable service and expert advice. PFG operates with a commitment to inclusivity and equal employment opportunity, fostering a safe and respectful work environment for all employees regardless of background or identity. The company also prioritizes employee growth, rewards, and recognition, ensuring a strong culture that values contribution and professionalism.
The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice is essential for maintaining the smooth functioning of the company’s food supply chain. Delivery drivers at PFG are more than just transportation operators; they are the face of the company who build lasting relationships with customers through punctuality, professionalism, and excellent service. The role involves operating tractor trailers or straight trucks to deliver food and related products both intrastate and interstate on various routes including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight. Drivers follow dispatch schedules that typically start early in the morning (2 AM), with an average of 10-hour shifts from Monday through Friday, and no weekends. Drivers receive competitive compensation including an average daily pay of $420 with a minimum daily guarantee of $400, and $320 daily pay during training. The work primarily involves handling touch freight, mixed pallets, and ramp or hand truck activities.
The responsibilities include comprehensive safety checks according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, careful inspection of tractor and trailer conditions, and prompt reporting of any safety concerns. Drivers ensure accurate documentation of freight loads and customer delivery paperwork, maintain communication with customers and coworkers, and verify deliveries with proper customer signatures. Handling of cash or checks for deliveries requiring payment is also part of the role, along with careful management of returns and damaged goods. Drivers use equipment such as two-wheelers, lift gates, and other tools to safely handle product cases, which can range in weight from 10 to 90 pounds depending on the location.
Performance Foodservice offers benefits that start from day one, including health and wellness coverage, employee stock purchase programs, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off. The company encourages growth opportunities within its organizations and fosters a safe, inclusive, and rewarding work environment. As a CDL-A Driver, employees have the chance to contribute to an essential industry while developing their career in a supportive setting that prizes safety, reliability, and professionalism. Performance Foodservice stands out as a company that values its workforce as much as it values the customers it serves, ensuring mutual success for all parties involved.
