Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), plays an essential role in America's food supply chain by partnering closely with a diverse array of customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company has established a reputation for excellence by not only delivering quality food products but also by supporting clients with expert advice through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and operational strategists. This dedicated team fosters robust relationships with customers, helping them innovate on menu development, improve operational effectiveness, and select the right products to meet their needs, thereby contributing meaningfully to the success of independent restaurant owners and other food service providers.
Committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful working environment, Performance Foodservice emphasizes a culture that rewards and recognizes its employees. The company offers competitive compensation and benefits packages that include Day 1 Health & Wellness Benefits, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K Employer Matching, Education Assistance, and Paid Time Off, among others, illustrating its commitment to employee well-being and career growth. Performance Foodservice’s workplace culture is built on respect, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence, making it an outstanding place for qualified drivers who value safety, professionalism, and the opportunity to grow within the logistics and food distribution industry.
The CDL-A Driver position at Performance Foodservice is integral to the efficient and reliable delivery of food and food-related products throughout local, intrastate, and interstate routes. These drivers predominantly operate tractor-trailers or straight trucks on a variety of routes including over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and drive-and-drop, ensuring products arrive at customers’ locations promptly and in optimal condition. The role is structured as a Monday through Friday schedule, with dispatch starting at 2 AM and average 10-hour shifts, with no work on weekends, offering drivers a balanced work-life rhythm. Delivering touch freight, mixed pallets, and performing ramp/hand truck work, the position demands a high level of physical fitness and attention to detail.
The role requires drivers to be the face of the company, building lasting relationships with clients through professional communication skills and exemplary customer service. Drivers are responsible for safety checks, such as pre-trip and post-trip inspections, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and ensuring that all freight is properly loaded, secured, and delivered. Accountability in reporting safety hazards or equipment repairs, maintaining accurate freight paperwork, and managing delivery verifications are fundamental aspects of the job.
Performance Foodservice encourages growth and development opportunities within the company, positioning CDL-A Drivers to advance as vital contributors to the food distribution ecosystem. The company’s commitment to regulatory compliance, safety, and operational excellence ensures that drivers have clear guidelines to maintain standards and pride in their work. Additionally, this role requires the ability to lift and maneuver goods using hand trucks, lift gates, and other equipment, handling products ranging from 10 to approximately 90 pounds, thus requiring physical stamina alongside professional qualifications.
In summary, the CDL-A Driver role at Performance Foodservice offers a unique combination of competitive pay—with an average daily route pay of $420 and a minimum daily guarantee of $400—comprehensive benefits, consistent weekday schedules without weekend work, and opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the food service industry. This position is ideal for responsible, safety-conscious drivers who want to join a company dedicated to supporting both its customers' success and its employees' growth in an inclusive and rewarding environment. The company also promotes equal employment opportunity (EEO) to all applicants and employees, ensuring a diverse and inclusive workplace free from discrimination based on any protected characteristics as defined by local, state, and federal laws.
