The Driver, Formula CDL-A role is a critical position within the company’s logistics and distribution network. This position involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes to deliver fresh food and food-related products efficiently and safely. Drivers serve as the face of Performance Foodservice to customers and vendors alike, ensuring that all deliveries are made on time and in excellent condition. This role requires adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and the company’s safety guidelines, handling all necessary vehicle inspections and paperwork meticulously to maintain operational compliance.

The work schedule typically involves 4 to 5 days per week with no Sunday shifts, averaging 10-12 hour days. Drivers operate during overnight hours, with dispatch occurring between 12 AM and 5 AM depending on the assigned route. The compensation structure includes a minimum pay of $350 per day based on a component pay system. Beyond driving, responsibilities include loading and unloading cargo, verifying delivery accuracy and condition, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and securing freight. Drivers also play an important role in communicating effectively and professionally with customers, vendors, and colleagues to resolve questions and foster strong business relationships.

This role is suited for individuals who possess a valid CDL-A license, a clean driving record, and the physical capability to manage freight handling tasks. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 12 months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • 21 years or older
  • Compliance with state licensing or certification requirements
  • Clean motor vehicle report for last 3 years
  • Successful completion of post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Possession of current valid DOT health card or ability to obtain one
  • Physical ability to hand-lift products ranging from 10 to 90 pounds and use equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 12+ months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A
  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attains or has valid current DOT health card or able to secure new DOT health card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight

Job Duties

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • Functions as a team member within the department and organization, performing any duty assigned to best serve the company
  • Performs all required safety checks including pre and post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately reports all safety hazards
  • Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of products loaded
  • Completes all required paperwork accurately and legibly associated with freight
  • Moves tractor to loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unloads products from trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • Performs damage control checks on items, scans and contacts supervisor regarding order removal
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • Collects money (cash or checks) where required
  • Loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors
  • Ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are locked and secured
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns, completes necessary paperwork
  • Performs daily record of hours of service and enters logs in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clear and clean
  • Secures equipment and completes paperwork at the end of the shift
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
