Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a division of Performance Food Group (PFG), is a premier broadline food distributor serving a diverse range of customers across the United States. These customers include independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. Performance Foodservice distinguishes itself through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts who nurture deep and collaborative relationships with clients. This commitment goes beyond simple food delivery to providing strategic advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and overall operational strategies. The company plays a vital role in supporting independent restaurant owners and other foodservice operators in achieving their business goals and dreams. Known for its integrity, customer focus, and comprehensive service offerings, Performance Foodservice maintains a reputation as a trusted partner in the food distribution industry.
The current career opportunity is that of a CDL-A Driver, a position critical to maintaining the seamless flow of the nation’s food supply chain. These drivers are responsible for transporting food and food-related products efficiently and safely to various customers. The position offers an average salary range between $77,000 and $88,000 annually with potential earnings up to $90,000, reflecting the crucial nature of the work and competitive market rates. It is designed as a full-time role with a four-day workweek following training, which provides an attractive work-life balance rarely available in the trucking and delivery industry. Typical shift dispatch times are early morning, between 4 am and 6 am, accommodating varied delivery schedules and routes including local, over-the-road (OTR), intrastate, interstate, shuttle, and overnight runs.
In this role, the CDL-A Driver acts as the public face of Performance Foodservice, tasked not only with the physical transportation and delivery of goods but also with fostering positive and professional relationships with customers, vendors, and coworkers. The job requires adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) safety regulations and company policies, including conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers to ensure safety and regulatory compliance. Drivers are also responsible for securing freight correctly, managing delivery paperwork, verifying counts, handling payment collection when applicable, and reporting any safety issues or vehicle repairs promptly.
This position demands a blend of technical skill, responsibility, and customer service orientation. Drivers use specialized equipment, such as two-wheelers and lift gates, to handle the products, which vary in weight and size, often ranging between 10 and 90 pounds. Additionally, the company prides itself on providing a safe and inclusive work environment with a culture of rewards, recognition, and respect. Employees benefit from day one health and wellness benefits, a robust employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and much more. The company also emphasizes growth opportunities within the organization, allowing drivers to advance their careers while playing an essential role in America's food distribution system.
Performance Foodservice promotes equal employment opportunities and adheres to all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations to ensure a diverse and equitable workplace. Committed to employee safety and satisfaction, this role is ideal for candidates who possess a valid CDL-A license, have clean driving records, and wish to contribute meaningfully to a team-oriented organization that values their work and dedication.
