This entry-level Driver Trainee position is designed for individuals seeking to start their career in commercial driving with a focus on transporting food and related products. The role entails driving tractor trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes that may include local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. Drivers are expected to complete deliveries safely, adhering strictly to all company safety policies and Department of Transportation regulations. The trainee will work closely with a driver trainer, participating fully in all training programs and ride-along sessions to gain the necessary skills and certification to operate commercial vehicles independently. Duties include performing mandatory safety checks on vehicles and cargo, inspecting freight loading, driving assigned routes, unloading and verifying deliveries with customers, collecting payment when applicable, and maintaining accurate records of service hours and delivery documentation. The position demands physical capability, including hand-lifting and using equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates, to handle freight typically weighing between 60 and 90 pounds.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent
- valid CDL A license
- minimum 6-12 months experience with CDL A for external entry level hires
- must be at least 21 years old
- meet all state licensing and certification requirements
- clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
- pass post offer drug test
- pass road test
- attain or maintain valid DOT health card
- able to hand-lift up to 90 pounds and use related equipment

Job Duties
- Attend and complete entry level driver trainee or dock to driver training program
- ride-with and assist driver trainer in deliveries
- perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections
- follow DOT regulations and company safe driving policies
- inspect trailer for loaded and secured freight and complete related paperwork
- drive and deliver customer orders according to schedule
- unload products and verify deliveries with customers including obtaining signatures and collecting payments where required
- ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are secured at all times
- unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
- complete daily hours of service records and log entries
- perform general housekeeping duties and secure equipment at shift end
- perform other related duties as assigned
