Job Description

Performance Foodservice, known as PFG, is a leading broadline food distributor uniquely positioned to serve a varied clientele that includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. With a commitment to excellence and customer service, PFG leverages the expertise of a diverse team comprising sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry specialists who collaborate closely with customers. Their combined efforts focus on enhancing business operations, menu development, product selection, and strategic planning to foster growth and efficiency within the foodservice industry. PFG is more than just a food delivery service; it is a dedicated partner to its customers, striving to support and empower independent restaurant owners to achieve their business ambitions and culinary visions.

This particular position is an entry-level driver trainee role within Performance Foodservice, designed for individuals eager to begin a career in commercial driving. The role offers competitive remuneration, averaging $90,000 annually, and operates on a Monday through Friday schedule with an early morning start. The driver trainee will acquire hands-on experience operating tractor trailers or straight trucks, navigating local, intrastate, interstate, and overnight routes as they deliver various food and related products to customers. This position emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance, and professional customer interaction. Trainees will undergo rigorous training programs, including the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Programs, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet industry safety standards and company protocols.

The role demands meticulous attention to safety and operational procedures, including pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The trainee will work closely with a driver trainer, learning key operational tasks such as securing freight, verifying delivery documents, unloading products, and maintaining detailed records of hours of service. There is also a strong focus on teamwork, professionalism, and upholding the company’s standards of respect and inclusivity within a safe working environment.

Performance Foodservice prides itself on offering its employees comprehensive benefits from day one. Employees have access to health and wellness programs, stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and myriad other perks that foster growth and a supportive work culture. The company is also deeply committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring equal employment opportunities to all applicants and staff regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or other protected characteristics as outlined by federal, state, and local laws.

Joining Performance Foodservice as a driver trainee represents a meaningful career opportunity to support America’s vital food distribution network. It is ideal for motivated individuals seeking a stable yet dynamic work environment, with a clear pathway for growth and development. This role not only introduces candidates to the logistics and transportation aspects of the foodservice industry but also to a company culture that values safety, recognition, and respect. If you are ready to embark on a career that delivers both essential services and personal advancement, this position offers the training, support, and rewards to help you succeed.
