The position offered is an Entry Level Driver Trainee role tailored for individuals eager to develop skills in operating tractor trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes. This role is crucial in supporting America’s food distribution network by delivering essential food and food-related products safely and efficiently. Trainees will work on various routes including local deliveries, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries.

Compensation for this role can reach up to $90,000 annually, with a unique 4-day work week and shift dispatch times starting between 3 am and 5:30 am. The role provides a structured training program where the driver trainee will attend and complete the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program. Trainees ride along with experienced drivers to learn delivery execution, safety compliance, and customer interaction. Responsibilities also include conducting safety checks as per Department of Transportation regulations, performing freight inspections to ensure secure loading, completing necessary paperwork, unloading products, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards within the truck and docking areas.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Valid CDL A license
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post-offer drug test
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have current DOT health card
  • Ability to hand-lift and move product cases generally weighing 60 to 90 pounds
  • Willingness to work early morning shifts starting between 3 am and 5:30 am
  • Capable of following safety regulations and company policies
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to complete training programs and learn driving skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Valid CDL A license
  • External entry level hire with 6-12 months driving experience with CDL A preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post-offer drug test
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT health card
  • Ability to hand-lift and utilize equipment for moving product cases and freight generally ranging from 60 to 90 pounds

Job Duties

  • Attend and successfully complete the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program as required
  • Ride with and assist driver trainer in executing deliveries
  • Perform all required safety checks including pre/post-trip inspections of tractor, truck, and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving policies
  • Inspect trailers for properly loaded and secured freight and verify customer invoices
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined schedules
  • Unload products, perform damage control checks, verify deliveries with customers, and collect payments where required
  • Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately secured at all times
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
  • Complete daily hours of service records and log entries as per DOT and company requirements
  • Perform housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock areas and secure equipment at end of shift
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
