This particular job opening is for an entry-level Driver Trainee role, designed for individuals eager to launch or grow their professional driving careers. The position offers a four-night work week schedule with dispatch times typically between 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., providing an opportunity for balance and concentrated work periods. There is a weekly minimum guarantee pay of $1,450, equating to an approximate annual salary range of $80,000 to $90,000, underscoring the company’s commitment to offering competitive compensation. As a Driver Trainee at PFG Customized Distribution, the individual will undergo an extensive training program including the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program. The trainee will learn how to safely operate both tractor trailers and straight trucks for local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, or overnight routes. Responsibilities include delivering and unloading various food and food-related products while adhering strictly to company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The trainee will work closely with a driver trainer on deliveries, following instructions carefully and acquiring the skills needed to complete routes safely and efficiently. Key job functions involve performing safety inspections, securing freight, maintaining accurate delivery documentation, and ensuring customer satisfaction through professional interactions.
Key performance areas consist of completing both pre-trip and post-trip safety checks, inspecting freight for proper loading and securement, unloading products into designated storage areas, managing damaged goods and returns, completing hours of service logs, and performing general housekeeping duties related to the truck and loading dock area. The trainee will also be responsible for reporting safety hazards or vehicle issues and abiding by all federal and state regulations governing commercial driving. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent
- Valid CDL A license
- Must be 21 years of age
- Meet all state licensing and certification requirements
- Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
- Pass post offer drug test
- Pass road test
- Attain or maintain valid DOT health card
- Able to hand-lift and use equipment to move product cases weighing 60 to 90 pounds
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent
- Internal PFG candidates: minimum 1 year of service in good standing and ability to attain CDL permit and DOT health card
- External entry level hire: 0-6 months experience with a CDL A
- Valid CDL A license
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Meet all state licensing and certification requirements
- Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
- Pass post offer drug test
- Pass road test
- Attains or has valid current DOT health card
- Able to hand-lift and use equipment such as two-wheeler and lift gate to move product cases weighing 60 to 90 pounds
Job Duties
- Attend and complete PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program
- Ride with and assist driver trainer in executing deliveries
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of tractor, truck, and trailer
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safety policies
- Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight and complete related paperwork
- Drive and deliver customer orders according to route schedule
- Unload products, perform damage control, verify deliveries, collect payments, and secure freight
- Ensure equipment and trailers are locked and secured
- Unload damaged goods and customer returns, complete paperwork
- Maintain daily hours of service logs in compliance with federal and state requirements
- Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock areas
- Perform other related duties as assigned
