Job Description

Performance Foodservice, known as PFG, is a leading broadline distributor specializing in providing a diverse selection of high-quality food and food-related products to a wide spectrum of clients including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company has built a reputation for fostering close relationships with its customers through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other industry experts who provide valuable advice on operations, menu development, product selection, and strategic planning. This commitment to service excellence helps independent restaurant owners and businesses thrive and achieve their operational goals. PFG prides itself on delivering not only delicious food but also comprehensive support that goes above and beyond the expected to empower its customers and contribute to their success.

The Driver Trainee position at Performance Foodservice is an entry-level role designed for individuals eager to learn and gain hands-on experience driving tractor-trailers or straight trucks. This position involves operating vehicles on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. The role requires strict adherence to safety standards governed by both company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, ensuring all deliveries are completed reliably and safely. Trainees will participate in comprehensive training programs such as the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, aimed at equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for successful driving careers within the company.

In this role, the trainee will work closely under the guidance of experienced driver trainers, assisting with deliveries and learning all aspects of safe vehicle operation, freight handling, and customer service. Key responsibilities include performing safety checks on vehicles, inspecting freight for proper loading and security, maintaining accurate documentation, and engaging professionally with customers and coworkers. The position emphasizes teamwork, safety, and customer satisfaction as core values. The company offers a supportive and inclusive work environment that fosters growth, rewards performance, and respects all team members.

The Driver Trainee schedule is Monday through Friday with dispatch hours from 4:00 am to 6:00 am. The annual pay range for this role is between $62,000 and $85,000. Employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an employee stock purchase plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off among other perks. PFG encourages career advancement, provides a culture of safety and respect, and offers opportunities to work in essential roles that support America’s food distribution system, making it an ideal start for a career in commercial driving and logistics.
