Job Description
Performance Foodservice (PFG) is a leading broadline foodservice distributor known for its commitment to delivering quality products and exceptional service to a diverse range of customers. This includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. PFG prides itself on fostering strong relationships with its clients through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts. These professionals work closely with customers to provide valuable advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies, helping independent restaurant owners achieve their goals and dreams.
As a company, PFG offers a competitive and inclusive work environment that values safety, respect, and recognition. Employees benefit from a comprehensive package of pay and benefits starting from day one, including health and wellness benefits, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more. The company emphasizes growth opportunities, especially in roles that are essential to supporting America's food distribution system.
The entry-level Driver Trainee position at PFG is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to begin a career in commercial driving within the food distribution industry. This role involves learning to drive a tractor-trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. The Driver Trainee will be responsible for safely delivering and unloading various food and food-related products to customers, fully complying with company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
In this role, the trainee will interact professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, ensuring all services and duties meet company standards and customer service best practices. The position requires teamwork and the willingness to perform any duties assigned to best serve the company. Key responsibilities include completing PFG's Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, assisting and riding with a driver trainer during deliveries, performing safety checks and inspections on vehicles and freight, and adhering strictly to DOT rules and company safety guidelines.
The Driver Trainee will also be tasked with loading and unloading freight, verifying deliveries and customer signatures, completing required paperwork accurately, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of equipment and work areas. The role requires maintaining daily records of hours of service and ensuring all deliveries are executed efficiently and safely.
PFG seeks candidates who possess a high school diploma or GED, have at least six months of commercial driving experience, and hold a valid CDL Class A license. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and comply with all state licensing or certification requirements. Additionally, applicants must have a clean motor vehicle report for the past three years, pass a post-offer drug test and a road test, and obtain or hold a current DOT health card. The job also requires physical capability to hand-lift and use equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates to move products typically weighing between 60 to 90 pounds.
This position is scheduled Monday through Friday with dispatch times between 4:00 am and 6:00 am. The pay range for this role is $62,000 to $85,000 annually. PFG is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and maintains policies that prohibit discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other protected characteristics according to local, state, and federal laws.
