Job Description

Performance Foodservice (PFG) is a leading broadline distributor known for its robust network supporting a diverse client base that includes independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company distinguishes itself through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other professionals who work closely with customers to enhance their operational efficiency, menu offerings, product selections, and overall business strategies. By combining high-quality food products with comprehensive advisory services, PFG goes beyond simple distribution to help independent restaurant owners and other foodservice operators achieve sustainable growth and success in a competitive marketplace.

The company culture at PFG is built around inclusivity, respect, and support, fostering a safe working environment that values employee contributions through rewards and recognition. With an emphasis on career development, PFG offers growth opportunities for team members keen on advancing within the food distribution sector. The company also provides a competitive compensation package that includes day-one health and wellness benefits, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance, and paid time off, all designed to support the wellbeing and professional growth of its workforce.

The position offered is an entry-level Driver Trainee role, designed for individuals who are eager to launch a career in commercial driving within the food distribution industry. This role involves learning how to operate tractor trailers or straight trucks both intrastate and interstate, encompassing local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight delivery routes. Trainees will participate in a mandatory two-week training program held in Little Rock, which is a critical component for gaining hands-on experience under the guidance of skilled driver trainers. The training includes a comprehensive safety orientation covering pre-trip and post-trip inspections and adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Successful candidates will develop the skills required to deliver and unload a wide variety of food and food-related products safely and efficiently to various customers, ensuring that all deliveries meet company policies and customer service standards. The Driver Trainee is expected to interact professionally with customers, vendors, and colleagues while functioning as an effective team member within the department. Responsibilities also include completing and maintaining all required documentation accurately, performing vehicle safety checks, managing freight inspections, and following all road safety laws and company protocols.

This role is a vital part of America’s food distribution system, helping ensure that essential goods reach their destinations intact and on time. The Driver Trainee position offers competitive pay ranging from $62,000 to $85,000 annually and the chance to work a Monday through Friday schedule with dispatch times between 4:00 am and 6:00 am. In addition to the practical driving and delivery skills obtained, trainees gain exposure to logistics, customer service, safety compliance, and teamwork, all essential for a long-term career in transportation and distribution. Performance Foodservice’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, along with its comprehensive benefits and supportive environment, makes it an excellent choice for those starting their journey in the trucking and foodservice delivery industry.
