Job Description

Performance Foodservice is a broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), renowned for its pivotal role in the foodservice industry. The company maintains a versatile clientele, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. What truly differentiates Performance Foodservice is its dedication to not only delivering quality food products but also supporting its customers with expert advice. Their team comprises sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other specialists who collaborate closely with clients to enhance operations, develop menus, select the right products, and establish effective operational strategies. This client-centric approach has solidified the company’s reputation as a reliable partner for those seeking to flourish in the competitive foodservice market.

Joining Performance Foodservice means becoming part of a team that delivers essential goods to America’s food distribution network, directly impacting local economies and communities. They emphasize a safe and inclusive culture underscored by rewards, recognition, and respect among employees. Work hours reflect a Monday to Friday early start schedule allowing for weekend time, and the compensation includes a competitive average annual salary of $90,000, complemented by a substantial $10,000 sign-on bonus to attract skilled professionals.

The role of a CDL-A Driver at Performance Foodservice is fundamental to the company’s operational success and the overall food supply chain. This position involves operating tractor-trailers or straight trucks on intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and drive-and-drop assignments. Drivers ensure that orders are delivered timely and in proper condition, adhering strictly to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Beyond just transportation, drivers act as the company’s representatives on the ground, fostering positive relationships with customers through professional interaction and exceptional service.

Responsibilities include comprehensive safety inspections—pre-trip and post-trip checks—to confirm the vehicles meet all safety standards and addressing any issues promptly. Drivers must maintain accurate records, from delivery manifests to hours-of-service logs, ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and company mandates. The position demands strong physical capability to handle freight, including lifting weighted product cases and operating equipment such as two-wheelers and lift gates.

Additionally, drivers play an active role in the loading and unloading process, verifying shipments against customer invoices, securing freight properly, and completing all necessary paperwork with accuracy. Providing excellent customer service by communicating clearly, collecting payments when necessary, and maintaining a clean working environment are integral to the job.

In summary, this position offers new hires a valuable opportunity for growth in a role that is vital to sustaining America’s food distribution. The company’s inclusive culture, comprehensive benefits beginning on day one, and opportunities for advancement present an appealing career path for qualified CDL-A drivers dedicated to safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
