The CDL-A Driver role at Performance Foodservice is a crucial position responsible for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the company’s food supply chain. The driver will operate tractor trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop assignments. This full-time position requires working primarily in the early morning hours between 2am and 6am, Monday through Friday, with some rotational Saturday shifts. The salary range is between $50,000 and $90,000 annually, reflecting the importance and responsibility of the role.

As a CDL-A Driver, you will be the face of the company, building lasting relationships with customers by ensuring that food and food-related products are delivered in a timely and safe manner, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies. Your responsibilities include communicating professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, performing mandatory safety checks and inspections on vehicles, maintaining accurate paperwork, and following strict safety and driving guidelines. You will also handle loading and unloading freight, verifying deliveries and obtaining proper customer signatures, and ensuring the secure transportation of goods.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 6 months commercial driving experience
  • Possession of a valid CDL-A license
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for the past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Holds or can obtain a valid DOT Health Card
  • Ability to hand-lift and use equipment to move and stack product cases weighing between 10 and 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 6 months of commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A license
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • Ability to pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Successful completion of road test
  • Valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure one
  • Ability to hand-lift and utilize equipment like two-wheelers and lift gates to move product cases of varying weights between 10 and 90 pounds

Job Duties

  • Communicates and interacts with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner
  • Functions as a team member within the department and organization, performing any assigned duties to best serve the company
  • Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Reports all safety issues and/or repairs required
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Performs count check of items and checks customer invoices of loaded products
  • Completes accurate and legible paperwork associated with freight
  • Moves tractor to loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unloads products from trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas
  • Performs damage control checks on items, scans, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to policy
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures
  • Collects money where required
  • Loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors
  • Ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and secured
  • Unloads damaged goods and returns, completes necessary paperwork
  • Performs daily record of hours of service and enters logs in accordance with Federal DOT and company requirements
  • Maintains cleanliness and performs general housekeeping in tractor and loading dock areas
  • Secures all equipment and completes necessary paperwork at the end of the shift
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
