The position being offered is an entry-level Driver Trainee role, designed for candidates who are eager to learn and gain hands-on experience driving tractor trailers or straight trucks. This role entails intrastate and/or interstate driving across local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes to deliver various food and food-related products to customers. The trainee will work closely with experienced driver trainers, engaging in a comprehensive training program to develop safe driving skills that meet Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies. The Driver Trainee will be responsible for performing pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, adhering to DOT rules, securing freight, delivering goods, unloading products, and maintaining accurate delivery records. This role also demands excellent communication skills as the trainee will interact professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, ensuring a high standard of customer service and teamwork.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Six months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL Class A license
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Meet all state licensing or certification requirements
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT health card
  • Ability to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate or other equipment to move product cases and freight

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Attend and successfully complete driver trainee or dock to driver training program
  • Ride with and assist driver trainer in executing deliveries
  • Perform required safety checks including pre and post-trip inspections
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight and complete paperwork
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders per schedule
  • Unload products, verify delivery with customers, and collect payments where required
  • Secure tractor, trailer, and freight at all times
  • Complete daily log of hours of service according to DOT requirements
  • Perform housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock area
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
