The role of the CDL-A Driver at Performance Foodservice is a vital position within the company’s food supply chain. Key to the company’s mission is the timely and safe delivery of food and foodservice products, and drivers are the face of the company for many customers. They play an essential role by ensuring that products arrive in excellent condition and on schedule, building strong customer relationships through professional communication and service. This position is a full-time role, offering competitive pay at $37.50 per hour with weekly paychecks. Drivers work Monday through Saturday, with one weekday off and every Sunday off. Dispatch times begin early in the morning between 3 AM and 5 AM.

CDL-A Drivers are responsible for operating tractor trailers or straight trucks on various types of routes including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop assignments. Their duties extend beyond simply driving to include conducting thorough safety inspections of vehicles and trailers in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, ensuring compliance with company safety standards, and reporting any safety concerns or needed repairs promptly. Drivers also handle loading and unloading of freight, verifying inventory, completing required paperwork accurately, and managing any customer returns or damaged goods according to company policies.

Safety is paramount in this role. Drivers perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and abide by DOT regulations and internal company guidelines for safe driving. They ensure trailers are properly loaded and secured, maintain accurate records of hours of service, and diligently follow all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. In addition, CDL-A Drivers maintain cleanliness and order within their vehicles and designated work areas and participate as active team members within the company by performing other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum 12 months commercial driving experience
  • valid CDL-A license
  • age 21 or older
  • valid state licensing and certifications as applicable
  • clean driving record for past 3 years
  • successful completion of drug and road tests
  • valid or attainable DOT health card
  • ability to lift and handle freight weighing up to approximately 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • 12+ months commercial driving experience
  • valid CDL-A license
  • must be 21+ years of age
  • meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements where applicable
  • clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for past 3 years
  • pass post offer drug test
  • pass road test
  • attains or has valid current DOT health card or able to secure new DOT health card
  • physically able to hand-lift and use equipment to move and stack product cases/freight

Job Duties

  • Performs all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer
  • follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • immediately reports all safety hazards and inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
  • performs count check of items and verifies customer invoices
  • moves tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • drives to and delivers customer orders according to delivery schedule, unloads products and transports items into designated storage areas
  • performs damage control checks and verifies delivery with customer obtaining signatures and collects money when required
  • loads customer returns on trailer and secures trailer doors
  • unloads damaged goods and returns, completes necessary paperwork
  • completes daily log of hours of service in accordance with federal DOT, state and company requirements
  • performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area and keeps trailers clean and clear
  • performs other related duties as assigned
